The Blast City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | July 23, 2025

It's been overcast this week, but seemed fitting weather for cave adventures in the Park, which took place on Monday in partnership with the Brisbane Library as part of National Park and Recreation Month! Participants got to explore CaveSim, an all-in-one portable caving experience, which included getting hoisted up a portable 12-ft. vertical caving tower and crawling through 60+ feet of tunnels. Thank you to everyone who made this possible for the community and campers alike to enjoy! Be sure to join for yet another fun outing in the Park honoring this year's Park and Rec Month theme, Build Together, Play Together, happening this Thursday starting at 4 PM!

New Emergency Call Boxes Installed at Brisbane Marina to Enhance Public Safety

Brisbane Marina is improving visitor safety with the recent installation of emergency call boxes throughout its promenade. With initial placement of the call boxes completed earlier this month, the initiative is part of a broader commitment to emergency readiness and community care. The boxes are expected to be fully functional by July 28, 2025.

Strategically located across the marina’s most frequently accessed areas, most commonly known as the Bay Trail, the call boxes offer direct, instant communication with emergency services - empowering boaters, staff, and visitors to summon help in seconds.

Brisbane Marina encourages all community members to visit and learn more about the upgraded safety features. The call box system was installed in collaboration with the Brisbane Police Department and Utility Telecom. See more information here on the City's website.

Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Traffic Report - San Bruno & Mariposa

Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) is an evolving strategy that alters the fundamental and traditional ways in which the police fight crime and respond to other problems in the community.

An important component of COPPS is the use of Problem Oriented Policing Projects (POP Projects).

A brief synopsis of recent years' POP Projects is available here on the City's website, with the most recent one opened June 16 and closed July 2 in the area of San Bruno Avenue & Mariposa Street. The City Manager's Office had requested speed data following receipt of complaints from residents that cars were speeding.

During the enforcement period, approximately 2.5 weeks, the speed trailer collected the speed of 26,522 vehicles traveling along San Bruno Avenue around Mariposa Street. Of the vehicle data collected, 2% were driving above the speed limit at an enforceable rate, approximately 5 miles per hour above the posted 25 mph speed limit. Read the full POP Project summary here. Officers will continue to monitor speed and stop sign violations in this area, and we'll have more to share next week about directed enforcement that's been taking place on this corridor.

Wind? No Worries: Ridge Banners Made to Move

Earlier this month, Public Works installed banner brackets on 15 light poles at the Ridge which utilize a patented spring tension system; this keeps banners in place during normal conditions, and allows them to rotate when the wind starts blowing...which happens from time to time in town! We think the banners look great, positioned to greet residents headed to Altamar, Landmark, and Viewpoint, as well as those visiting Mission Blue Center!

We look forward to the next banner set going up after the summer concert series concludes, which will feature none other than Day in the Park, happening this year on Saturday, October 4th! In the meantime enjoy the current set designed by our Communications Intern, Noah Kellstedt, for Concerts in the Park.
