  • Thanks to all who joined us for Friday’s “Tributo a Jovita Idar” to share her contributions as a Mexican-American journalist, activist, and suffragist. Kudos to Provost Dr. Claudia San Miguel, Dr. Irma Cantú, TAMIU associate professor of Spanish, Rebekah Arenaz, University College lecturer, and Nayeli Lopez Diaz, director of the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico for a stirring performance of their ballet honoring Idar. U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar’s (’82) office also presented a first edition of the Jovita Idar Quarter released by the U.S. Mint which he donated to our Special Collection in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.
  • Saturday’s Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace Recruitment Fair gave attendees of all ages a chance to explore outstanding career and internship opportunities in this dynamic industry. Our thanks to Dr. James O’Meara, College of Education Dean, who championed this initiative.
  • Healthy Relationships Week continues with activities through Thursday. Here’s the Schedule.
  • Coffeehouse Wednesday this week presents guest presenters, The Orange Theory Laredo Fitness Team. They will share their collective career journey and lessons learned along the way. Join them Oct. 4 at 10:30 a.m. in Student Center 114.
  • On Thursday, please join me for our 2023 University Convocation. We’ll present the recipients of our Innovador Award, TAMIU Faculty Awards and the State of the University address. We’ll get underway at 3 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. Please join us!
  • Proyecto Amigo is a new program for TAMIU undergraduate students. Its goal is to promote community and belonging in addition to providing mentorship opportunities to increase Dustdevil retention and graduation rates.
  • Join Proyecto Amigo Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Career Services Office, Student Center 114, for the “Who is on your professional team? TAMIU to Hold Convocation Thursday, Oct. 5

TAMIU's Fall 2023 University Convocation is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. We’ll present the recipients of our Innovador Award, TAMIU Faculty Awards and the State of the University address.

TAMIU’S 2023 Innovador Award to Recognize Summers Couple for Lasting Educational Impact

The 2023 TAMIU Innovador Award will be presented to Evelyn Summers and her husband, the late Carroll E. Summers, Jr. at TAMIU’s Fall 2023 Convocation Ceremony. TAMIU’s Innovador Award was created in 2018 to recognize individuals or organizations making a lasting impact on education, particularly higher education, in Laredo and the South Texas region.

TAMIU's Proyecto Amigo Offers Assistance to Undergraduate Students

Proyecto Amigo is a new program for TAMIU undergraduate students. The goal of the program is to promote community and belonging in addition to providing mentorship opportunities to increase the retention and graduation rates of our Dustdevils.

Student Success Coaching Sessions

What do you need to be a successful Dustdevil? Book a 1-1 student success coaching session to discuss topics such as:

  • How to find a mentor.
  • What graduate school is and how to apply?
  • Managing your personal and professional time.
  • Reviewing questions about your financial aid package.
  • Searching for scholarships.
  • Reviewing TAMIU and local community resources.
  • What are you plans for after graduation?

Proyecto Amigo Talks/Workshops

Connect with other Dustdevils on campus and grow your personal and professional skills through one of the Proyecto Amigo Talks this fall semester.

EduMed Ranks TAMIU Nursing Programs Among Tops

TAMIU's College of Nursing and Health Sciences' Nursing programs earned top spots in the latest rankings released by online source EduMed. The rankings highlight the top programs based on a combination of factors such as affordability, accessibility, and commitment to student success.

"We are extremely proud of our program offerings at the Dr. F.M. Canseco School of Nursing and these rankings are a testament to our faculty's commitment, dedication, and passion in teaching. Our programs are accessible and affordable and students in our online programs feel connected to TAMIU through frequent and synchronized one-to-one interactions with our faculty while learning remotely."

IBC Bank and Commerce Bank Keynote Speaker Series Scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11

The upcoming talk by Dr. Marcus Noland, titled "Asia in the Global Economy: Implications for the United States and the World" is free and open to the public. The lecture will also be streamed via Microsoft Teams.

TAMIU Graduate School to Host an Open House Thursday, Oct. 12

It’s time to take the next step in your education. Meet with program advisors and faculty during our Graduate School Open House Thursday, Oct. 12! Join us at our Open House for your chance to receive a $2,000 scholarship. We’re also waiving our Graduate School application fee. Applicants must apply on Oct. 12 to take advantage of this waiver.

TAMIU Commencement Kick-Off Celebrates Upcoming Graduates Thursday, Oct. 12

Our Fall 2023 Commencement Kick-Off is happening Thursday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center. Join us to check your graduation status, purchase regalia, order your class ring and receive loan payment information.

TAMIU's Reading the Globe Lecture Invites Author Marie Mutsuki Mockett to Campus Friday, Oct. 13

TAMIU's Reading the Globe Program will host a lecture on Friday, Oct. 13 at noon in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. The special lecture features this year's Fall 2023 Campus Common Read author Marie Mutsuki Mockett. Her novel, Where the Dead Pause, and the Japanese Say Goodbye, was the Fall Campus Common Read for TAMIU First-Year Students. Students can apply for selection as an RTG Ambassadors by taking part in an essay competition for their chance to participate in a study abroad trip to Japan this Spring 2024.

TAMIU Athletics Update

TAMIU is a member of the Lone Star Conference and competes in 11 sports: volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's golf.
