Thanks to your support, Fernside serves thousands of local children coping with grief through support groups, summer camps, and outreach programs. The funds raised make it possible for Fernside’s healing services to be provided free of charge to the children and families who need them most.

"Through your generosity, Fernside continues to serve families, schools, and the broader community at absolutely no cost. We simply could not do this vital work without you."

Vicky Ott, Executive Director, Fernside Center for Grieving Children

Nearly 300 gathered in support of Fernside’s mission. In addition to raising critical funds for Fernside Center for Grieving Children, the event strengthened community bonds through compassion, unity, and hope. In addition to a welcome, dinner, and guest speakers, guests placed live bids on auction items like a summer vacation, Reds premium experiences, dinner and drink pairings, and a helicopter ride!

The event’s impact will allow the center to continue offering essential care and support to grieving children, helping them find comfort and healing during a difficult time. This meaningful work is made possible through generous community support.

A highlight of the night was hearing Layla's story and the impact that Fernside has had in her life.

Layla, a brave 10-year-old girl, shared the story of losing her mother at age seven after a drunk driving accident that also injured her father, describing the confusion, fear, and heartbreak she felt when she learned of her mother’s death. She reflected on cherished memories of her mom’s joyful, loving personality and the special moments they shared as a family. Layla then explained how attending Fernside’s grief support program helped her process her loss, connect with other children experiencing similar grief, and find healthy ways to express her emotions through activities and ongoing support at school. Though she still missed her mom every day, Layla emphasized that Fernside had helped her feel less alone, stronger, and able to hold both sadness and happiness at the same time, and she closed by expressing gratitude for the people who supported programs like Fernside.

“I still miss my mom every day, but I don’t feel as alone anymore. Fernside has helped me so much over the last three years. They have helped me learn how to talk about my feelings. They make me feel stronger, supported, and brave. I’ve learned it’s okay to be happy and sad at the same time."
