Take an opportunity to complete these assignments over time using your sketchbook or journal. Make the work personal to your experiences. Explore 1 prompt in depth OR explore multiple prompts to fill your 8 page Zine (including cover and backcover). We will use this work as a jumping point for your art-making this fall. These zines will be on display for the first few weeks of class! Good luck, and we cannot wait to catch up with you in the fall!
Missing the zine sketchbook we created in June? Didn't take art in 2025-2026? Create a zine using the tutorial below.
Challenge! Can you fill a zine this summer?
Option 1. Observe & Collect
This prompt is all about being a careful observer. In her book, How to be an Explorer of the World, Keri Smith asks readers to investigate their world by "looking closer, consider patterns and connections, and notice the stories going on around you." Choose at least one of the following "Explorations" from her book and complete the exercise in your zine. How can you DOCUMENT these collections in your zine in a interesting and meaningful way?
Option 2. Experience & Document
Use your zine to document your summer experience. Draw, paint, collage, write, sketch! Try and draw a little bit everyday.
