Colmore Junior School

Spring term week: 25

Highlights of the week

To all the families in our school community who are celebrating, I would like to begin by wishing you a very Eid Mubarak. It is always a joy to share in the diverse celebrations that make our school so vibrant. The atmosphere at school today was full of excitement, thanks to our "Silly Dress" theme. I want to complement the children on their incredible effort and creativity; we were treated to some truly imaginative hairstyles, brilliant costumes, and even a giant inflatable chicken roaming the corridors and classrooms! I was also personally touched (and perhaps slightly alarmed) to see one student’s very "interesting" interpretation of the theme: coming to school dressed as me. It is safe to say the bar for creativity has been set very high! Finally, a huge thank you to everyone for your generous Red Nose Daycontributions. Your kindness makes a real difference. I would also like to extend my gratitude in advance to the volunteers heading out to the school allotment this weekend—your hard work in tidying our green space is greatly appreciated by the whole school.

Thank you to all parents and carers who have been pre‑ordering school lunches. We still have a small number of children ordering in the classroom, and after the Easter break all lunches will need to be pre‑ordered in advance. If you need any help with the system, please contact the school office and a member of the team will be happy to guide you through it. Thank you again for your support with this new process.

Year 3 had a treat on Thursday. Miss Carol brought her lovely dog, Lily, in to school as part of a lesson on caring for animals. The children were incredibly sensible and Lily was so well behaved! 🐶

4RK continued to find out about forces and motion in their science lesson this week. They investigated the impact of friction on the movement of a toy car on a slope.
Huge thanks to the Brandwood Blooms Project who have very kindly provided Colmore with these beautiful planters on our Grove Road entrance. They really cheer the us all up as we enter the school.

We had some incredible outfits and costumes for Comic Relief today. It was great to see so many sales happening too! We will be adding up the total money raised and will share it in next week’s newsletter. Thank you for all your support.

We were incredibly proud of a group of year 5 and 6 children who took part in a history quiz at Camp Hill Boys School against a host of other local schools.  They were real ambassadors for our school and our Year 5s came first in the competition! What an achievement! 🥇
5BM made the most of the sunshine this week. Following their OAA lesson they carried out some active minutes activities in the sunshine. They had to design their own games with the equipment provided.

Huge congratulations to the girls football team for winning their fixture in the HMS Girls football competition. With a final score of Colmore Junior school 7. St.Michaels 0

Year 6 have made a start on their work linked to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They have made their own sweet creations in preparation for their tantaliser writing.

The newsletters are also accessible on the news section of our school website.
