Moving and Growing

Nursery, summer term, wEEK 6

The sunshine has definitely arrived this half term, and we have been making the most of spending time outdoors learning, playing, and growing together. We have continued our focus on writing development, starting with the important physical skills that children need before they are ready to write. Through climbing, balancing, large-scale movements, dough disco, and plenty of playful mark making, the children have been strengthening their bodies and developing the control needed for writing.

Our new physical development activity, using sticks to ‘conduct’ along to the music and moving the whole shoulder to form different shapes.

Scarf dancing continues to be a firm favourite with the children, so many smiles every time the music starts.

All of this movement prepares the children for writing. Did you know that lying on your tummy while writing helps to strengthen the upper body and core?

Meanwhile, the children continue to take their roles as expert plant growers very seriously. The plants have been carefully watered, closely inspected, and checked on many times throughout the day.

Finally, the class have really enjoyed working together in the construction area. This week there have been spaceships, zoos, train stations, and robots built, with plenty of teamwork and imagination along the way.

We hope everybody has a lovely half term break and enjoys some sunshine along the way!
