Quarry Draft EIR Public Comment Period Closure + Next Steps
Thank you to the 100+ agencies and members of the public who provided comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Guadalupe Quarry Redevelopment Project. The public comment period was open from October 7, 2024, through this past Monday, January 6, 2025. The next step of the environmental review process is for the City to evaluate comments received on environmental issues and prepare a Final EIR that responds to those comments. The Final EIR will be considered by the City in making the decision to certify the EIR and whether to approve or deny the Project. To stay up-to-date on the project’s status, make sure to subscribe for updates and check the project website. To learn more about the CEQA process, review the City’s factsheet, which includes the following process diagram on page 2:
Note: the comment letters are currently under review; when staff has an estimate as to when the Final EIR is expected to be published, which will include responses to those comments, we'll provide an update.
This past Monday, the City's Open Space and Ecology Committee held a special meeting to finalize the Committee's comments for the Quarry Draft EIR. Watch back the meeting here:
Apply for Open Seats on City Commissions & Committees by Friday, Jan. 10, 2025

PG&E Construction on Bayshore Starting Friday Evening, Jan. 10
PG&E’s required work on their gas transmission line in Bayshore Boulevard will require significant traffic control and lane closures/changes starting Friday evening, 1/10 at 7 PM, and continuing into midday Saturday, 1/11. Please avoid travel on Bayshore between Old County Rd. and Valley Dr. during this time.
City Website Gets Performance Improvements
In recent weeks, you may have experienced website performance issues. I regret that our website has not been performing to the highest standards we all expect. Our website vendor, CivicPlus, has been working with us to identify the root cause of recent performance and outage issues and determined the issues stemmed from the site’s previous web host. You may recall that the company that ran our website, Municode, was acquired by CivicPlus in 2023; those Municode sites were housed on a server that began experiencing intermittent outages. With the recent move to a more reliable server, performance on our City’s website should be greatly enhanced; of course, we’ll continue to monitor the situation, as well as work with CivicPlus to see if further improvements are possible, i.e. in regards to its search functionality.
Please visit the City’s website to see the latest news, such as the newly-launched Brisbane Affordable Housing Rehabilitation Program, how you can serve on a City Commission or Committee (deadline to apply is 1/10), California’s new “Daylighting Bill” to improve pedestrian safety at intersections, and the latest updates from the Community Pool.
Next Brisbane Chamber Mixer, Jan. 15
You're invited to the Brisbane Chamber's January mixer on Wednesday, January 15 from 5 PM - 7 PM, hosted by 7 Mile House (2800 Bayshore Blvd). Attending a mixer is an excellent way to network with other business professionals and community leaders. Space is limited! Please RSVP to Madison Davis to reserve your spot.
Launching CDI’s Community Outreach and Education Partnership Initiative
The California Department of Insurance (CDI) recognize the critical importance of ensuring Californians are well-informed about essential insurance concepts. They believe that a more robust statewide initiative is crucial to consistently educating California’s communities.
To enhance their outreach efforts, the CDI is launching the Community Outreach and Education Partnership Initiative. This initiative aims to increase consumer awareness of CDI’s role, responsibilities, and services, while also expanding knowledge of essential insurance topics and fraud prevention.
The CDI will partner with agencies and community stakeholders serving California’s uninsured and underinsured. This partnership will strengthen connections and create opportunities for education, training, presentations, engagement, and collaboration.
Elements of the Partnership Initiative:
- NEW Insurance Essentials and Insurance Fraud Prevention Toolkits in Multiple Languages
- Free Train-the-Trainers Webinars for Stakeholders
- Targeted Social Media Messaging
- Mass Distribution of Outreach Materials
- Updated Virtual or In-Person Outreach Presentations
The CDI is also launching the Local Climate Planning Hub and Webinar Series to assist local governments and stakeholders in navigating the complex challenges of climate change adaptation.
They are also offering a few webinars:
- Insurance Essentials Registration – January 31st, 2025
- Local Governments Climate Planning Registration – February 26th, 2025
