This week in nursery our busy hands, listening ears and dancing feet have been hard at work. The children have been building their early writing skills, playing with sounds and rhymes, and showing real confidence as they learn together.
Lots of writing has been happening during the children's play, including plenty of 'letters' written home.
At the beginning of the week, we spent time looking at silly rhymes, like “a frog on a dog”. The children had to guess the rhyme using the pictures as clues. We also tried using “sound buttons” to separate words into the different sounds we can hear in them.
Moving outside, we’ve been encouraging the children to take “measured risks”, for example having a go at jumping off a block or walking along a plank without holding a hand. This links beautifully to our current mantra, “I can do it myself.”
Through play, the children are learning to take turns, share ideas and build friendships. As they talk through their games and experiences, they are also developing their language skills and growing in confidence.
Across the week there has been lots of dancing, whether as part of our writing development, outside at lunchtime to move our bodies, or at the end of the week when our Dance City visitor, Miss Davison, comes in. We love to move and be active… what three-year-old doesn’t?
Please join us for our Read, Play, Connect session next Tuesday. If you have any books at home that you’ve finished with, bring them along to swap for new ones. We look forward to seeing you there!
