Thank you to our students, faculty and staff members who attended last week’s Open Forums with candidates for the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration/Chief Financial Officer. We appreciated your presence and support as we continue this process.

  • This week, TAMIU will host another series of Open Forums for candidates for the position of Vice President for Institutional Advancement. The Open Forums will take place April 14 - 16 in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, room 101. All members of the University community, including alumni, are invited to attend.

  • Last week, we also celebrated the newly reimagined space at the TAMIU Skylab. Our thanks to A&M System Student Regent Jaquavous S. Doucette for joining us at this celebratory event, and spending time this week with members of the Student Government Association. Their work helped make this reimagined space possible, and I thank them for their efforts.

  • The LEARN Expo, an opportunity to celebrate and showcase experiential learning activities on campus, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15.   • Our IBC Bank & Commerce Bank 2025-2026 Keynote Speaker Series features award-winning, New York Times journalist and global economics correspondent Peter S. Goodman. The lecture is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom. The University will celebrate its 30th Annual Western Hemispheric Trade Conference, happening April 15 – 17. The annual conference brings together academic researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss an array of topics affecting the Western Hemisphere in today’s global business world.

TAMIU to Hold Open Forums for Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Texas A&M International University will host a series of Open Forums for candidates for TAMIU’s next Vice President for Institutional Advancement. TAMIU to Host Learn Expo, Undergraduate Research Week

For the second year in a row, TAMIU will host its second annual LEARN Expo. The event, which celebrates experiential learning (EL) activities on campus, is happening Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 111 from 10 – 11 a.m. and 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.   Students, faculty, staff, and the public are welcome to view the presentations and help select the coveted title of “Student Favorite Poster.” Limited edition Earnie collectible stress balls will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to attendees. 

In tandem with the national celebration, TAMIU will also celebrate Undergraduate Research Week April 20 – 24, 2026. The celebratory work includes a series of events dedicated to supporting students in research activities. Food and special swag items will be available during each event.

IBC Bank and Commerce Bank 2025–2026 Keynote Speaker Series Features Expert on Supply Chain Disruptions April 15

TAMIU's IBC Bank & Commerce Bank 2025-2026 Keynote Speaker Series will feature award-winning, New York Times journalist and global economics correspondent Peter S. Goodman in a lecture titled "How the World Ran Out of Everything: Inside the Global Supply Chain." The lecture will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom (STC 203). Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Texas America250 Traveling Exhibit Opens at the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library

The Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library’s Special Collections and Archives will host the grand opening of the traveling exhibition Texas America250, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States through materials highlighting Texas history and civic life. The event will feature remarks from the University’s President as the guest of honor, followed by a faculty presentation on women’s suffrage, one of the themes highlighted in the exhibition. Guests are invited to view the exhibit and join a reception following the talks.

Reading the Globe Lecture Slated for Friday, Saturday

The world of South Korean pop culture comes to life during an upcoming lecture at TAMIU. Offered through the University's Reading the Globe Program, this year’s annual lecture will be delivered by Euny Hong, a Paris-based journalist and published author, who will discuss her book, “The Birth of Korean Cool: How One Nation is Conquering the World through Pop Culture.” Members of the University community can attend the upcoming lecture, happening Friday, April 17, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center, room 126. A second, public lecture will be offered through the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library on Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. Prior to the lecture, a meet and greet with the author is also scheduled. The event is free and open to the public. Free, limited books will be available at each lecture offering.

UISD District Tennis Tournament at the City of Laredo Tennis Complex

TAMIU employees and students are invited to attend the UISD District Tennis Tournament on April 27 and 28 at the City of Laredo Tennis Complex at TAMIU. Matches will begin at 9 a.m. each day, continuing until approximately 5 p.m. on Friday and concluding around 3 p.m. on Saturday. Please note that the tennis complex will be closed for regular use during those two days. However, spectators are welcome, and admission is free. Come out and enjoy some great tennis!

TAMIU College of Arts & Sciences Scholarships Now Open

TAMIU's College of Arts & Sciences is pleased to announce that scholarship applications for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year are now officially open. We invite all eligible students to explore the various funding opportunities available and submit their applications through ScholarshipUniverse.com, the university’s online scholarship platform.

TAMIU Program Spotlight:

Bachelor's of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science

Coming this fall, the Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) program prepares graduates to play a crucial role in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients. MLS are the third-largest medical profession after physicians and nurses and perform complex testing using sophisticated instruments to detect diseases, monitor treatment, and collaborate with other healthcare teams for the management of patient outcomes. The program’s instruction, in a combination of face-to-face and distance learning instruction (hybrid), is complemented by immersive, hands-on laboratory sessions. Experiential learning will occur at hospital practice sites. MLS employment opportunities include careers in the health care industry, such as blood bank scientist, clinical chemist, cytotechnologist, epidemiologist, field service engineer, forensic scientist, hematologist, immunologist, infection control officer, medical laboratory scientist, medical technologist, microbiologist, molecular biologist, public health scientist, research scientist, sales technical specialist, and veterinary technologist. Graduates with an MLS from TAMIU will also be uniquely positioned for graduate schools such as law, business, dentistry, medicine, pathology assistant, physician assistant, and veterinarian, among others. The median annual wage of $68,000 in Texas.
