Celebrating Artistry: The Multifaceted Journey of Mony Nation
Mony Nation, a distinguished graduate of The University of Alabama is a creative force that defies boundaries. A published photographer, writer, and designer, Mony's work embodies a commitment to centering Black lives, stories, and communities, as well as uplifting women from diverse backgrounds.
With an impressive travel record that spans over 29 countries, Mony's creative well draws deeply from the rich tapestry of new environments and communities she encounters. Her contributions have graced prestigious platforms such as Travel & Leisure, where she shared her unique perspective, and as a co-editor for The MelaninLens Magazine. Mony's travel stories have also found a home in MITH magazine, further showcasing her ability to connect with audiences through her words.
Mony's journey in the fashion world has been equally vibrant. From guest directing to videography and photography for the Berlin-based fashion vlog, Suit Yourself with Paige, she has made her presence felt. In 2020, Mony's collaboration with the eponymous label Sherie L. Nevett, a renowned Los Angeles fashion house, resulted in a colorful and imaginative graphic fashion collection.
Mony's photographic artistry has graced galleries across the United States, leaving an indelible mark on the visual landscape. Her works have been featured at prominent venues, including the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA), Venn.Bushwick, and the Long Island Photo Gallery. Upcoming showcases include the Montgomery Photo Festival and the Huo Bao Zhu Gallery at Troy University.
Mony's creative prowess has earned her numerous accolades. She was invited by Alchemical Studios x Black Women’s March for International Women’s Day in 2022, where her latest short video, "Discovering Deloach: Filling the Genealogy Gaps," was screened. She was also named a 2022 Lensculture Critics Choice Award winner, showcasing the impact of her work in the industry. Her thesis work has been proudly featured on the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGANY) platform, solidifying her position as a thought leader in graphic design.
Having recently completed her MFA in graphic design at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, Mony has an exciting trajectory ahead. She plans to release her first photo book for purchase, complete a travel book, and unveil a new visual publication. These projects promise to be a testament to her creative evolution and dedication to her craft.
