Library Solar Construction & Pool Electrification Work Getting Underway
Earlier today, City contractor McMillan Electric started work installing a 29kW photovoltaic system at the Brisbane Library. The Brisbane Library is an all-electric building, with no gas services on the 7,600 sq. ft. building. When it was designed in 2018, staff, along with the building's architects, made sure the roof was specifically constructed to accommodate solar panels in the future. With the help of a Power Purchase Agreement with Peninsula Clean Energy, that vision is now becoming a reality! We expect there will be minimal disruption to library operations during construction. However, once the system is fully installed, the building will need to be temporarily powered down to complete the final connection. The exact date for this will depend on PG&E, and updates will be posted at the library once one has been determined.
Work also started this week at the Pool to prepare for the facility's new electric air-source heat pumps, which will serve as the primary heating system for the pool, replacing the existing gas-fired pool heater currently in use. The project includes a new 800-amp PG&E service and associated site changes to accommodate the electrical equipment, such as a new power pole, which was delivered on Tuesday and will be installed on Thursday.
Electrifying the Pool’s primary heating source will eliminate a projected 34,274 therms of natural gas annually, which represents 86% of the City’s total municipal natural gas usage across all facilities! Based on current energy costs, this change is expected to reduce the Pool's operational utility costs by $15,034 per year. We extend our gratitude to Peninsula Clean Energy and Supervisor Canepa for their support in financing this project and bringing it to fruition!

Visitacion Ave. Issues Survey - Leave your Feedback by April 28!
At their meeting of March 6, 2025, the City Council Directed staff to authorize the Complete Streets Committee to engage around projects supporting traffic calming and parking challenges on Visitacion Avenue during peak hours. The Committee is anticipated taking the next 3 months to develop proposals for Council’s review. On April 2, 2025, the Complete Streets Safety Committee began developing an outreach plan and schedule for Visitacion Ave. issues. They're currently in the information-gathering stage, wanting to hear from residents, businesses, and anyone who frequents the downtown to provide their feedback now through April 28, 2025; there will be a later opportunity to consider and weigh in on improvements, which we'll share here in the Blast.
If you prefer to speak with a staff member over the phone or in person, please fill out the webform found on this page, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
