Christmas Gifts
At this time of year families can feel an extra pressure to buy adults in school a Christmas gift.
The cost of living is already making day to day life more difficult for so many of us and we all know that the festive season can be a very expensive time.
Your generosity is always appreciated by all the staff in school, however, we worry this adds another strain on our families. Class collections also add pressure to others and can be costly when you have more than one child.
Therefore, we are strongly encouraging parents not to buy gifts for the staff for Christmas.
The pennies saved can go in a pot for a hot chocolate treat over the winter break.
Christmas Cards
Did you know that approximately 1 billion Christmas cards are thrown away every year. It would take the equivalent of 33 million trees to make that amount of card?
As we try to do our bit for the environment, please do not send cards into school or give them to children to distribute.
Instead, why not make a donation to a local charity as a replacement for purchasing the cards.
Christmas Lunch and Christmas Jumper Day
The School Council would like to invite all children to dress up in a Christmas jumper, favourite Christmas outfit or Christmas fancy dress for our Christmas lunch on Thursday 11th December! This is not a fundraiser, just a School Council fun day for all children and staff.
For those children who usually have a packed lunch, please see the Letter regarding Christmas Lunch on the Whole School Letters page of the website, also sent via Teachers2Parents.
Christmas Parties (including arrangements for party snacks)
Please see below the dates of the Christmas Parties being held in school. These will be held during the school day and children will have their school lunch as normal. Children will play party games and have party snacks to enjoy.
Children are invited to come into school wearing their party clothes all day. Party clothes are anything that your child feels comfortable in. Some children may still wish to wear their uniform. Please remember that the same outfit can be worn for all these events so that your child gets lots of wear out of things! There is no need to buy anything extra or new.
To ensure that we are not sending food in from home, to reduce waste and to cater for known food allergies, we are asking families to pay a donation for each child of £1.50 on ParentPay, so that we can purchase the Christmas party afternoon treats. Please pay your £1.50 donation by Monday 1st December. Thank you.
- Monday 15th December - Years 3 & 4
- Tuesday 16th December - Years 1 & 2
- Wednesday 17th December – Nursery and Reception pm. Nursery 1 children are invited to return to school for 1.15pm
Christmas Movies
The last week of school will involve crafts such as card and calendar making. As well as the Christmas parties, each year group will have a Christmas film afternoon.
The children are welcome to wear pjs (shoes and coat still needed for outdoors). This is NOT compulsory and any pjs are appropriate - no need to buy Christmas ones!
- Monday 15th December - Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
- Wednesday 17th December - Years 3 & 4
Christmas Carol Service - All Saints Church
Throughout the church service there will be thanksgiving and lots of festive singing. It would be lovely to see you all there and seats will be available from 1.20pm, however, please note that there will be pews reserved for the children and staff so there may be standing room only once all seats are taken.
There will be a cash collection for those who wish to make a donation, in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice and Daft as a Brush.
If you wish to take your child/ren home after the service, you will need to sign them out from the class teacher at the end of the service; any children not collected from the church will return to school with the staff and should be collected at the normal time of 3.15pm.
If you do not wish your child to participate in the church service for religious reasons only, please let us know as we will ask them to be special helpers in Nursery for the hour, as the rest of school community will be at All Saints. Please email the school office by Monday 15th December to notify us. Children cannot be collected to take home.
