Note from Mr Higginbottom

Hello! We've welcomed back Mr Tasker who has returned from paternity leave. Thanks so much to Mrs Hodgkiss for working in Alston class over the last couple of weeks. We wish her the very best for the future.

Tickets for the Halloween disco will go on sale from Monday and can be bought from reception. Sales are cash only, please try to bring the correct change if possible. It sounds like it's going to be a spook-tacular night so get them while you can.

Thank you to everyone who registered their vote in our school governor ballot. We are happy to announce that Rachel Elder took the majority and will be our new Parent Governor. We look forward to having her on board!

We need to draw your attention to Rotherham's procedure for dealing with holidays taken in term time. This relates to where they have issued a fixed penalty notice and then a parent takes their child out of school for a holiday again. The wording is below, but will also always be included on the form you use to request leave of absence.

The Local Authority Code of Conduct for the issue of Fixed Penalty Notices in respect of Poor School Attendance and Unauthorised Holidays / Leave of Absence taken in Term-Time states that a parent will not be issued with more than 1 Fixed Penalty Notice in respect of an individual child in any 2-year period. This means that if any parent/carer who has already received a Fixed Penalty Notice then takes their child out of school in term time for a holiday, which falls within 2 years of the date of the last day of absence of the previous holiday, a request will be made to the Local Authority and the matter may be referred to the Magistrate’s Court. This could result in a prosecution of up to £1000.

Please be aware that even without a leave of absence form, where school know that a holiday was taken, the Local Authority will be informed.

Attendance Expectations
Uniform Expectations

Please support your children by ensuring they are following the required uniform expectations, including on PE days. Children should be dressed in a yellow or black polo shirt and black trousers, skirt, shorts or plain black leggings. Yellow gingham dresses may also be worn. Black cardigans or hoodies can be worn with or without the school logo. For PE, children need their white school PE top or plain white T-shirt and black shorts or tracksuit bottoms. No football shirts please. Please may we remind you to label your child's uniform with their name.

Dates for your Diary
Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you for your continued support of our school and for supporting your child by ensuring they're at school on time and they read at least 4 times each week. If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child's time in school you can email enquiries@sqp.wwpat.org, find me on ClassDojo or chat to me at the start or end of the school day.

At Swinton Queen Primary School, children are aspirational, courageous and inquisitive; respectful of all.
