The Blast City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | January 21, 2026

The smaller, 2–5 playground structure at the Community Park has officially re-opened after needing to be closed for several months. The issue? A broken platform, with the manufacturer of the playground equipment based in Sweden. This posed a challenge when it came to sourcing a replacement part in a timely manner. Therefore, the City’s Public Works team got to work designing and fabricating a new platform at the Corporation Yard, ensuring the repair met safety standards and extended the life of the equipment. The timeline for completion was affected by competing priorities, including storm preparation and response efforts that required immediate attention during the winter months. We appreciate the community’s patience while these critical responsibilities were addressed and do hope you get to enjoy this popular play area again soon!

1/15 City Council Meeting Highlights

At their January 15, 2026 regular meeting, the City Council:

  • Received a presentation previewing the new website from Caroline Cheung, Assistant to the City Manager. The new website will include a chatbot for quick and easy information access. The City’s new website will officially launch on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
  • Approved a contract amendment with Anchor QEA, LLC for additional sediment testing coordination, regulatory permitting support, and preparation of 90% and 100% design documents for the 2026 Brisbane Marina Maintenance Dredging Project. The Council instructed staff to research the dredging practices and overall maintenance of marina infrastructure in other cities. Staff will return with a comprehensive funding plan for dredging.
  • Received a report on proposed development impact fees. Council received nexus studies relating to potential impact fees for affordable housing, parks & recreation, transportation, and public facilities. A comparison study was also presented comparing the impact fees of neighboring cities. Council continued this item to allow for additional time for discussion.

Reminder Re: AB 413, "Daylighting to Save Lives" Bill

With the new school semester in session, we wanted to remind residents about Assembly Bill 413, which took effect state-wide on January 1, 2025. This important legislation was designed to improve safety at intersections by prohibiting vehicles from stopping, standing, or parking within 20 feet of the approach side of any marked or unmarked crosswalk.

The education and warning period took place throughout the first half of 2025. You can imagine we're not the only city dealing with how to address continual notification to residents, businesses, and visitors alike about the new state law. The Public Works Department has applied Reflective Pavement Markers (RPMs), to affected parking spaces, and now will be recommending to the Complete Streets Safety Committee Meeting, as part of their special 2/12 meeting, a plan to paint certain curbs red. If you feel a particular intersection would benefit greatly from red curb paint, please send an email to cityengineer@brisbaneca.org or plan to attend the 2/12 Complete Streets Safety Committee Meeting.

IDEA's 2026 MLK, Jr. Service Project Benefitting CORA

Last year, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the IDEA Committee hosted a toiletry drive benefiting Catholic Worker Hospitality House. This year, the Committee is proud to support CORA, a nonprofit dedicated to providing safety, support, and healing for individuals experiencing intimate partner abuse. One tangible way CORA delivers this support is through Tony’s Closet, which supplies essential items to survivors. By scanning the QR code on the flyer below, your donation will directly fund items from Tony’s Closet Wishlist. While individual donations are always welcome, City staff plan to visit CORA’s offices at the end of February to present the collected items on behalf of the Brisbane community. Thank you for standing with and supporting survivors.

Prefer to make a donation in-person? Come to the City Hall Annex and ask to speak with Ingrid or Caroline, staff liaisons to the City's IDEA Committee.
