Portola Valley Rectangular Flashing Beacon Project – Schedule Delay

The second phase of project work, previously scheduled for this week (April 1), will be rescheduled as soon as possible. The contractor reported a delay in equipment production, expects an update by mid-month, and will update the project construction schedule. The Town will notify residents as soon as a confirmed schedule is received.

Substantial first-phase construction was completed in late February at the Portola Road & Brookside Drive location, including concrete foundations for poles and underground conduit. The second phase of work will complete the system installation here and at the Alpine Road & Golden Oak Drive locations, including the beacons, crosswalk signage, and renewed crosswalks.

If you have questions or comments, please contact Paul Krupka, Town Project Manager, at (650) 504-2299.

Update on our Cubs

Fern, Thistle, and Spruce continue to grow under the care of the Oakland Zoo. Each cub has developed their own unique personality! Spruce is very vocal ( making him an extrovert), and does not like to share. Thistle is easy going with a curious personality, and Fern is on the shy side being more aloof.

Spruce will be making his way to Birmingham Alabama in early April to join an orphaned cub from Montana in Birmingham Zoo, new Cougar Habitat. Thank you to the special partnership between the Birmingham Zoo and Fedex, Spruce will be traveling in style to his new home. Fern and Thistle will continue to be together while they await the location of their new home.

Keep an eye on our cubs via Instagram, and live webcam.

What's Blooming Now? Brought to you by the Conservation Committee

What’s Blooming Now?

Early Spring Wildflowers

We are rapidly moving into our glorious period of blooming local wildflowers. Most of these are not commercially available, but Hounds tongue seed is easy to collect – from your pants legs. Many have had excellent success expanding small patches by clearing any weeds around the bases of the plants they’d like to encourage. Weed-whacking around them works well on larger areas. A fun project for anyone who wants to see their hard-work blossom!!
