Orange Day in the Bay
Orange Day in the Bay in Lantzville on September 30 aims to show support for Residential School Survivors. This family-friendly event is by donation, with proceeds going to to Snaw-Naw-As youth. There will be music, comedy, food & more.
Wellness Unites
On Saturday, September 30 from 10am until 4pm, the City of Nanaimo is hosting free activities for the whole community. There will be gymnastics, arts & crafts, skating, swimming, a scavenger hunt, games and activities and much more.
Tribal Canoeing on Westwood Lake
Seaview students recently learned about the Tribal Canoe and traditions while canoeing on Westwood Lake. Students could be heard singing and counting in Hul'quim'num while canoeing around the lake.
FREE Family Fun Gym Nights
Community Schools are offering FREE Family Fun Gym Nights this fall at four elementary schools. The evenings will be filled with teamwork, active play and time to meet new friends. The events are open to all ages and runs on Thursdays from 6-8pm until October 26. Everyone is welcome.
Regular Board Meeting
At the Regular Board meeting on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, the Board approved the recommendations to allocate the unrestricted surplus to support Board goals, the Board approved the 2022-2023 Enhancing Student Learning Report. The Board also approved the 2023-2024 Multi Year Financial Plan and circulated a notice of motion for the Public Interest Disclosure Policy.

Community Engagement
The Board of Education seeks feedback on the Public Interest Disclosure Policy through a notice of motion for 30 days, utilizing the consultation process. Feedback is being accepted until October 27, 2023. The draft policy and background information is available here.

World Teachers' Day is held annually on October 5 to celebrate teachers and the role they play. Let's take time to celebrate World Teachers' Day and recognize how teachers are transforming education and molding future generations.
ACTIVE PASS
The City of Nanaimo is offering the ACTIVE PASS for students in Grades 5 & 6. If you know a child born in the year 2013 and is a resident of Nanaimo, they are eligible to receive a Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Culture ACTIVE Pass. The pass is good for FREE admission to public drop-in swimming, skating and gymnasium sports from October 2, 2023 until August 31, 2024.
