Little Steps, Big Growth

Nursery, summer term, week 2

Our study of growth continues. Our pea seeds have begun to sprout, and our cress seeds are just germinating. We have also enjoyed reading lots of stories about how humans and animals grow.

Observation of growth.

The children know that their bodies are growing and that they need to keep themselves healthy and strong. Physical development is very important at this age, especially for their writing development.

The children develop their strength through many play activities.

Sensory play in shaving foam.
Whole arm movements with ribbons.
Drawing on a large scale... and drawing on each other, why not?
Playing games together.

In addition to physical skills, there are many other foundations for writing, such as developing phonics awareness. The children sorted objects into hoops depending on whether they could hear an 'm' sound or an 's' sound at the beginning of the word.

All of these skills are used when the children put pen to paper.

Learning to trace along lines from left to right, top to bottom.
A quiet moment writing outside.
Drawing a straight line is a tricky skill!
Imaginative writing during play.

During play, the children have been exploring colour, shape, and pattern.

Thank you again to those parents who are able to support the children's learning in the classroom. It is lovely for the children to see their favourite people engaging in the learning we do in class.
