The Rev Theatre Company Brings Creativity, Confidence, and Student Voice to OV

This spring, Otselic Valley Central School was proud to welcome The Rev Theatre Company for two engaging and impactful programs that brought performance, personal growth, and student creativity center stage.

Improv for All – High School Students Step Into the Spotlight

Students in grades 9–12 participated in Improv for All, an interactive performance that blended comedy, spontaneity, and student participation. With the theme “Keep an Open Mind,” the show encouraged students to think on their feet, take creative risks, and embrace the idea that discomfort can lead to growth.

Far from a traditional performance, Improv for All invited students to help shape the plot, contribute ideas, and even join actors on stage. According to The Rev, the show explores the core elements of improvisational theatre and how these skills—such as adaptability, listening, and teamwork—can benefit everyone, not just aspiring performers.

Students left the experience not only entertained but also empowered with practical tools they can apply in everyday life.

Echoes – Middle School Voices Take the Stage

Middle school students also had the opportunity to shine through Echoes, a unique performance built entirely from student-written pieces submitted as part of a statewide writing initiative. Before the show, students participated in writing workshops led by Rev teaching artists and submitted original poems, skits, stories, and songs to the Echoes program—one of the largest middle school writing competitions in the country, with up to 4,000 entries annually.

Several OV students were recognized for their outstanding work:

Honorable Mentions

  • Jacob Wilbur – Antony 1/18/1999
  • Luke Doroshenko & Blake Marshall – Trapping

Excellence in Writing Awards

  • Liliana Gomez, Teagon Schlag, Eleanor Swayze-Epolito & Bruce Shoemaker – Tale of the Book

Showcased Author Award

  • Garrett Lidell – Garden Apocalypse (featured in the live performance)

Performed by cast members Brooke, Josh, Chandler, Sophia, and Reilly, the Echoes performance brought these stories to life through dynamic acting, costumes, and music. Following the performance, a special awards ceremony honored the student writers whose work was featured.

Through both programs, The Rev Theatre Company gave OV students a chance to build confidence, express themselves, and see their ideas valued and celebrated. We are deeply grateful for this partnership and the unforgettable experiences they provided to our students.
