Grading Policy Design & Visual Communications - Grade 10

Grades reflect how ACCURATELY a student follows directions for projects, their effort, and how well they are completed. Each project will have a rubric explaining how projects are graded.

The breakdown of grade percentages changes from quarter to quarter in relation to senior project importance.

Daily Class Participation [Conduct]

25% [Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4]

Based on a 1-5 scale

This category reflects how well students stay ON TASK and efficiently uses class time. Playing games, improper use of a smartphone, watching videos and/or surfing the web will result in points off! Use of music devices with headphones is permitted during the non-instruction time. When a project is completed, students are expected to ask the instructor for additional work and/or fill out an Independent Project worksheet. See below of the 1-5 scale breakdown

This category reflects how well students satisfy the requirements for each project completed during a given term. Each project will be accompanied by an assignment document and rubric with clearly listed requirements and expectations.

This category reflects how well students satisfy the requirements for each assignment during a given term. Assignments will be accompanied by an assignment document and rubric with clearly listed requirements and expectations.

Entrepreneurship

This category reflects a student’s term grade in their Entrepreneurship Class.

Portfolio

10% [Q4]

Your portfolio is a collection of exhibits and achievements – both academic and vocational. This collection is used to help you showcase yourself to future employers, college representatives, or civil service. Students are required to meet the submission guidelines outlined in the portfolio manual and complete all assignments within the required timeline.

A completed high-level approved portfolio is mandated for senior sign-out.

Daily Class Participation & Conduct Scale Breakdown

The following scale will be used on a daily basis to grade student participation and conduct.

  • Outstanding (5/5): Followed all rules of the school and the shop. Conducted oneself in a courteous and respectful manner toward all instructors, staff and students at all times. Asked the instructor for additional work.
  • Above Average (4/5): Followed all rules of the school and the shop. Conducted oneself in a courteous and respectful manner toward all instructors, staff and students most of the time. May have acted in a slightly distracted/distracting manner at some point throughout the day.
  • Average (3/5): Followed most rules of the school and the shop. Sometimes conducted oneself in a courteous and respectful manner toward all instructors, staff, and students. Acted in a distracted/distracting manner at some points throughout the day.
  • Below Average (2/5): Violated rule(s) of the school and/or the shop. Rarely conducted oneself in a courteous and respectful manner toward instructors, staff and students. Acted in a distracted/distracting manner at several points throughout the day.
  • Poor (1-0/5): Violated many rules of the school and/or shop; was often disrespectful to instructors, staff and/or students.

Late Work Penalty Breakdown

  • On Time: Highest Grade = 100%
  • 1 Day Late: Highest Grade = 90%
  • 5 Days Late: Highest Grade = 75%
  • 10 Days Late: Highest Grade = 60%

All assignments can have their due dates extended as long as the students speak to the teacher and come up with an extension plan. Exceptions include live work for clients and contest deadlines. However, the end of the quarter is always the final hard deadline.
