Additionally, the presentation included an update on the benefits of the use of ALPR cameras as an investigative and crime deterrent tool, responsible for an 87% reduction in stolen vehicle incidents and significant reductions in property crimes.

Leash Law in Brisbane - Violators will be Cited

At the March 5th City Council Meeting, the Council decided to table the proposed pilot program for a camera in the Community Park following concerns raised by residents, including questions related to privacy and ICE. At the same time, the City remains deeply committed to the safety of the community. Last summer, a resident walking their dog in the park was attacked by an off-leash dog, highlighting the importance of following Brisbane's leash law. By keeping your dog on leash, you ensure that those who are not comfortable with dogs can experience the Park without fear, and that dogs on leash are not confronted by dogs off leash that may be unfriendly. While your dog may be friendly, their dog may not be! It's also tick season, so keeping your dog close is to your benefit. The Brisbane Police Department will be actively enforcing the City's leash requirements. Dogs must remain on leash in all park areas except within the City's designated Dog Park. See BMC 6.14.020. If you see a dog off-leash outside the Dog Park, please report it immediately to (415) 467-1212 so that an officer can be dispatched to inform the violator of the law and/or issue a citation. If you have information about a habitual offender, please call the BPD Anonymous Tip Line 415-347-2070 or use the webform. Providing detailed information about the dog and its owner will help officers conduct appropriate follow up.

Community Park Restrooms Now Equipped with Automatic Locking System

Did you know that up until recently, officers with the Brisbane Police Department needed to manually close the Community Park restrooms each night? Such is not the case any longer. The new magnetic locks for the Community Park restrooms have been successfully installed and are now operational. The doors are programmed to automatically unlock each day at 7 AM and lock at 9 PM, helping ensure the facilities are available during park hours. To discourage after-hours access, the hooks previously used to prop the doors open have been removed. Each restroom is also equipped with two interior sensors designed to ensure no one is accidentally locked inside when the doors secure for the evening.

Brisbane Seniors Take a Ride into the Future with Waymo

We welcomed 26 seniors to the Sunrise Room for our Age Friendly presentation and demonstration featuring Waymo on Tuesday, 3/10 from 9:30–11:30 AM. Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company making it safer, more accessible, and more sustainable to get around - without the need for anyone in the driver’s seat.

During the session, attendees learned about Waymo’s autonomous driving technology, key accessibility features, and the meaningful community partnerships the company has developed over the years with local nonprofits and disability advocacy organizations. Participants who were curious about autonomous vehicles had the opportunity to learn more about this evolving technology and explore how it can expand accessibility in transportation, including a short drive around town!

The event is part of the City’s broader Age Friendly initiative. Following the adoption of the Age Friendly Action Plan by the City Council in 2025, the Council Subcommittee convened several times to review the identified strategies and action items. During these meetings, the subcommittee engaged with representatives from the task force and members of the public to help identify priorities and provide direction to staff. For a closer look at the City’s Age Friendly efforts, thus far, please visit: Age-Friendly City | Brisbane, CA.

Announcing Winners of IDEA Committee's MLK, Jr. Poetry & Essay Contest: Elise Pang and Marymoore Patterson

In January, the City's IDEA Committee invited residents to reflect on Dr. King’s enduring legacy through original essays and poems. Mr. Hoaglund's 7th graders participated, with the IDEA Committee duly impressed with the level of knowledge his students had about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy. Elise Pang's poem was selected by the IDEA Events Committee for the Youth category, as well as Marymoore Patterson's essay for the Adult category. Congratulations! They've been invited to present their works at next week's IDEA Committee meeting, taking place on Wednesday, March 18th at 6 PM at the Annex, and will be provided with a $50 gift certificate to a Brisbane eatery of their choice. Feel free to join in-person or via Zoom. For 2027, the IDEA Committee will open the contest at the end of this year to allow for the winners the opportunity to share their works during the January-February timeframe.

"Boogie Down Brisbane": 3/21, Noon-4 PM in the Park!

Community members of all ages are invited to gather for the first annual Boogie Down Brisbane, a hip hop benefit concert, that will showcase a vibrant, family-friendly lineup of hip hop music, art, activities, and community solidarity on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 12 - 4 PM. The free event aims to spread awareness and raise funds for the three nonprofit organizers: Kapwa Kultural Center, Lyrical Opposition, and Rock The School Bells (RTSB).

Organizers aim to rally the community around arts, culture, and youth empowerment at a time when funding for community-based programming has been increasingly constrained due to dramatic shifts in the funding landscape.

“Boogie Down” is a nod to community-centered gatherings like Berkeley’s hip hop in the park events. These reflect both a celebration of hip hop and culture, as well as a call to action.

Designed as an inclusive, multigenerational experience, Boogie Down Brisbane will feature:

  • Live performances from headlining artists like Indigenous Cats an indigenous, underground hip hop duo from Southern California and The Osada 3, a Bay Area trio sibling band
  • A curated lineup of local and regional hip hop performers, DJs, and dance performances
  • Community vendors
  • Food and beverage offerings
  • Activities and entertainment for youth and families

Interested in volunteering? Click here. Otherwise, come and enjoy the first-ever Boogie Down Brisbane!

Brisbane Teens Explore Public Service at YAC Attack Leadership Conference

Members of Brisbane’s Youth Advisory Committee, comprised of dedicated, enthusiastic, and motivated 7th-12th graders who have the important duty of advising the Parks & Recreation Commission, Recreation staff, and ultimately the City Council on the programs and issues that concern the youth and teens in Brisbane, convened this past Saturday in Los Altos for what’s known as YAC Attack, a one-day educational leadership conference for YAC members from all over Northern California. This event is also oftentimes a turning point for teens to realize a passion for public service and to consider a profession in local government. Councilmember Frank Kern led a track, “The $2 Million Decision/SimCity IRL” which included an activity where attendees formulated budget plans and park designs, before presenting their findings in front of their peers, with Councilmember Kern along with Brisbane YAC Advisor Sara Nahass-López helping determine the winners.

Thank you, Councilmember Kern for leading an engaging, informative, and inspiring session and creating a memorable experience for the teens!
