Dear Families,
It has been a fantastic first week in school. Despite the heatwave, children have worked incredibly hard this week and made an excellent start to the new academic year.
Attendance
Thank you for your support with our attendance target this week. We have achieved over 98% as a whole school and children have enjoyed a special treat this morning. During assembly this morning I set them the challenge of maintaining 98% next week to earn another extra special treat! We have also had two classes, years four and five, who have achieved 100%! Well done to these classes!
Parkrun Schools
I would like to share an exciting initiative with you with you. In conjunction with Tavernspite School, we are hoping to become the first accredited Parkrun School in the country. ParkRun is a free, non-competitive running or walking event which takes place every saturday at 09:00. There are so many benefits to an active lifestyle and would like to promote exercise with our children. Parkrun is an excellent way for pupils to enjoy walking and running with Friends. On Saturday 30th September, we are going to be holding our first 'Takeover Event' at Milford Haven Waterfront Parkrun. Parking is available for free and it would be wonderful to see a large crowd of children/parents/families from Johnston School.
What will the take over involve?
- Run or walk 5km or 2.5 km. You are able to set your own challenge.
- Lots of teachers and staff will be taking part to run and support children.
- There will be a Johnston School timer - if you would like your result recorded when you only run a shorter distance.
- Free Tea/Coffee and snacks afterwards.
- Make sure that you wear a Johnston School T-Shirt/ your Johnston School P.E. T-shirt.
- Children must run/walk with an adult.
It would be great to see as many children as possible at the event :).
A Message From Milford Robins
Coffee Morning
I am going to hold another Headteacher's Coffee Morning on Monday, 11th September at 9:00.
This will offer an informal opportunity for parents/grandparents/carers or anyone connected to the school to come in and discuss any ideas that you might have, any concerns that you have or anything that you would like to draw to my attention.
Running a large and busy school, I am aware that there may be feelings or perceptions which I am unaware of but I am always willing to listen and consider ideas. I held the last meeting in January and I used the feedback which parents provided me to frame discussions at staff meetings.
