Message from the Leadership Team

Dear Noadswood families, We are already powering through the last half term and it’s a busy one! I am going to go straight into my three highlights of the week, starting with taking my senior ‘This is Me’ Choir to Merceode Care Home to sing to the residents there. Imagine our joy to find that it was resident Vera’s 97th birthday so we serenaded her first, followed by three songs we have been practising. We look forward to singing them again for you all if you come to NoadsFest on Saturday July 18th. The students were terrific and so warm-hearted, as always. They lift my heart, truly, so I know the same will have been true down at Merceode.

My second highlight has been Hot Choc Friday this breaktime with three Year 10s who are doing some superb work, outside of school, as Rangers and in their achievement of Bronze and in one case the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. There was such strong commitment to the best values of teamwork, citizenship and botheredness shining out of all of them. What a privilege it is to work with your young people. My third highlight also comes from today: we have been doing a bit of recruitment today for an important post for September that I will be telling you more about in due course. But my shout out is to the four Year 9 student leaders who joined Mrs Pearce and me for student panel. They were professional, enthusiastic and involved – I said to them, a group of pretty experienced adults could not have made it better. Whilst on highlights, it was exciting to hear about Autumn’s opportunity to go off to Spain to compete in a football tournament with her club; they are playing against some high-profile teams such as Barcelona and Real Madrid. I’m so proud to hear this, and, as we start the Men’s World Cup, how good is it that we have got someone playing on the international stage from good old Noadswood at the same time! Go Autumn! Finally, I have been really enjoying learning about how well the Ironbridge History trip has been going. My thanks to all my colleagues and to all your children for their commitment to making this residential go well. A quick reminder, then, to all Year 7 families to regularly check their emails, as booking information for our upcoming Year 7 Progress Event has now been shared. This event provides an important opportunity to meet with staff, celebrate successes, discuss progress and ensure that every student is continuing to settle successfully into secondary school life. This is also an especially busy and exciting time of year for our Year 6 new recruits! We are delighted to be welcoming primary pupils to our school through our Year 6 Moving Up Events as well as some of their Year 5 younger friends via our Arts Week. These activities provide valuable opportunities for our current students to become involved as ambassadors, role models and mentors for younger pupils, and for us to share our time and passions with the younger ones. Final words must be: well played, Year 11! You are so near the finishing post for your exams, and you have continued to impress us so very much. Best wishes to all for a good weekend, and thank you, once again, for your partnership and challenge this week as in all weeks; we need you all.   Kathryn Marshall and the Noadswood Leadership Team

Safeguarding Advice

Online bullying can feel invisible to a lot of us, until the impact lands on confidence, friendships, learning and wellbeing. This week’s focus is about helping us all to recognise the signs early and feel confident taking action. This information poster highlights the practical steps you can take to support your child. By working together, we can create a safer, kinder digital world for every young person.

Year 7 Progress Event

Year 7 Subject Progress Event is on Wednesday 17th June 4-8pm. Appointments are made and attended through School Cloud. An email was sent to parents and carers on Tuesday 9th June containing all the links required to set up appointments. Work produced by a student working with one of our Therapy Team:

We thought it would be lovely to showcase some work completed by a Year 9 student working with one of our ELSAs in our Therapy Team, using a metaphor of the sea and the anchor in managing intense emotions.

Cycle to School Week

Cycle to School Week is back with the addition of Bike Shed Bingo. There will be a minimum of 6 Golden Bingo Tickets attached to winning bikes every day with 3 main prizes up for grabs on Friday 19th June at the Bikers’ Breakfast. Students loved being part of the breakfast last year, sitting down and chatting to each other. All we ask is that students cycle or scoot to school at least two days next week to be part of the Bikers’ Breakfast. All phones must be put in lockers before students can come to the breakfast – good health all round!
