Our Manor 10-14 June 2024

Welcome to this week's newsletter

Dear families,

We have had another lovely week in school this week full of enrichment, exams and learning! Our Year 11 and 13 students have continued working hard in their exams and in-between have been spending moments around the school celebrating the end of this stage of education. It has been a joy to see moments of thanks between students and teachers as subjects finish, and our Year 11 enrichment day on Wednesday was a real pleasure to watch the small part I did. Seeing students enjoying spending their time with their peers, taking a break from the rigour of the exam season and genuinely enjoying the company of adults who have supported them through their journeys was really heart warming. Next week we look forward to leavers events for these cohorts and the proms beyond.

We have also had a number of performing arts trips this week covering Shakespeare and more. Thank you to all of the students and staff that have made this possible and have represented the school so well. Our performers will be wowing again next week with their Dance Showcase - tickets are on sale here.

Finally, it was a pleasure for staff to meet incoming Year 6 families at our welcome event on Thursday. We look forward to welcoming them to our family formally in September.

Have a lovely weekend.

Chris Bateman, Vice Principal

Attendance matters

Please help us to improve your child's success at school by sharing the following with them:

  • ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’ (Nelson Mandela). Arm yourself with the most powerful weapon: education. Attend school every day.
  • 73% of pupils with attendance of 95% achieve 5+ GCSEs at grade 4 or above.

Students leaving site

The only circumstances in which a student will be allowed to walk home during the school day is for a pre-arranged appointment or if parents/carers have authorised their child to leave after an exam. This is in line with DfE guidance and to ensure that students are safe at all times. We are aware of some potential risks within the area - please refer back to item 4 in this newsletter for more details.

Suspicious cold calling

We have been made aware that recently a parent of a child at Newton Road School had a doorstep cold call from a man regarding the following Department for Education project.

The parent had not signed up to this project and the school had certainly not put the child's name forward, although this is what the caller informed the parent. He also had an appointment card.

Please be vigilant and call the police if you are concerned about an unexpected caller.

Year 11 leavers day

Our Year 11 leavers day will be taking place on Wednesday 19 June. All Year 11 students are invited to join us from 12:30pm for shirt signing and to say goodbye. The day will finish at the end of the normal school day (3:15pm).

We would love to see as many of them there as possible for one final time together as a year group to say well done and good luck in the future.

Softball cricket result

We would like to congratulate the students who participated in a Year 7 Softball Cricket tournament this week and came joint second. The team won the first game by 5 runs, lost the second game by 1 run, and lost to the overall winners Wrenn in the third and final match.

Well done to:

  • Tommy N
  • Matthew W
  • Matilda S
  • Charlotte F
  • Harry B
  • Harley F
  • Charlie L
  • Maxwell H

String quartet concert

Our two A level musicians (Ollie and Kiera) are part of a NMPAT string quartet. They will be giving a free concert on Sunday 23 June at 3:00pm at Christ Church in Northampton (NN1 5LL). The concert will be no longer than an hour and tea and cakes will be served afterwards. Ollie, Kiera and the other members of the quartet would love to see you there!

Year 11 exams

The final exams and booster sessions of the exam season will be taking place Monday-Wednesday next week.
