CAELAN TRACEY

Building the Foundation Early: How Caelan Tracey Is Raising His Game

I’ve seen major improvements in my speed, explosiveness, and confidence on the field.

As a Freshman at Spring Lake High School, Caelan Tracey is already playing football at both the junior varsity and varsity levels—an opportunity earned through intentional preparation and consistent training. After a year and a half at PowerStrength, Caelan has made measurable gains in speed, power, explosiveness, strength, and confidence, all of which have translated directly to his performance on the field. Through individualized assessments and fully coached training, Caelan addressed key weaknesses, built a stronger foundation, and learned how to train with purpose. This Fall, that preparation showed up in game action as Caelan earned meaningful reps at running back and linebacker against older, more physically developed athletes. His father, Todd, credits PowerStrength’s full-body approach and emphasis on injury prevention as key factors in allowing Caelan to compete safely and confidently at a higher level. Training in PowerStrength’s Premier program has further elevated Caelan’s development, pushing him to compete alongside serious athletes and raising his standards on and off the field. Beyond physical growth, Caelan has gained mental confidence, focus, and the ability to push himself—traits that extend beyond football. With a strong foundation in place and clear long-term goals, Caelan is positioning himself for continued growth as he works toward playing college football and beyond.

JUSTIN DALZIEL

How a 42-Year-Old Dad Lost Fat and Gained Muscle in Just 2 Months

I feel fantastic. I have more energy. I’m happier. I’m not in pain.

At 42 years old, Justin Dalziel joined PowerStrength with a clear goal: get back in shape, feel better, and regain control of his health. Like many busy adults, he had tried training on his own—but without structure, accountability, or results. After committing to PowerStrength’s fully coached adult training program, the difference was immediate. Through expert coaching, small-group sessions, and individualized attention to technique, Justin not only got stronger—but eliminated the aches and pains he previously assumed were “just part of getting older.” In his first month, Justin gained 5 pounds of muscle. Within 2 months, he dropped 30 pounds of fat. More importantly, he gained energy, confidence, and consistency. He feels better at work, moves pain-free, and is able to stay active with his kids—something that had become increasingly difficult before training. A key part of Justin’s success came from focusing on small, sustainable habits outside the gym, including better sleep, improved nutrition, and daily movement. Combined with coaching and a supportive training environment, those habits compounded into lasting change. Justin credits the PowerStrength community for pushing him forward—trainers who coach every rep and peers who encourage one another without judgment. His biggest shift has been mental: realizing that strength, progress, and growth are still possible well into his 40s and beyond. For Justin, this transformation isn’t an endpoint—it’s the foundation for decades of healthier, stronger living.

TOM WUSTMAN

Preparing Kids the Right Way: Inside PowerStrength’s Youth Training Philosophy

When he comes out the door every week, he’s smiling. I asked him what his favorite part is, and it’s just the coaches. How fun they are.

As PowerStrength prepares to launch 2 new youth-focused training facilities, the mission of building strong, confident, and capable kids is already coming to life through athletes like Tom Wustman. After just 4 months in the PowerStrength Youth Program, Tom—currently a 5th grader—has made noticeable strides in strength, speed, explosiveness, and confidence. His father, Tyler, shared that Tom has added nearly 10 pounds of muscle, moves faster and more confidently on the field, and shows a level of physical presence that stands out for his age. Beyond physical development, the biggest changes have been in confidence and enjoyment. Tom looks forward to training, thrives in the engaging environment created by the coaches, and carries that confidence directly into competition. His preparation has given him the belief that he can make plays he previously hesitated on. For the Wustman family, starting young was about learning proper technique, building a safe foundation, and setting Tom up for long-term success. The emphasis on form, age-appropriate progressions, and open communication with coaches has created trust and clarity for both athlete and parent. What stands out most is the relationship-driven approach. Coaches stay connected, provide encouragement, and invest in the athlete beyond the gym floor—reinforcing that PowerStrength is not just a program, but a community committed to developing young athletes the right way.

DAVE AND KRISTINA FAIRCHILD

Meeting People Where They Are: How Dave and Kristina Built Strength, Confidence, and Momentum

Aches and pains are much less. I just feel better overall.

Dave and Kristina Fairchild began training at PowerStrength Kentwood in February 2025 after years of avoiding strength training due to inexperience and uncertainty. With no background in lifting and only limited exposure to gyms, they were initially nervous—but immediately felt supported through individualized coaching and small-group training. After several months of consistent, structured training, they are moving better, feeling stronger, and experiencing meaningful improvements in daily life. Tasks like climbing stairs, mowing the lawn, carrying groceries, and long days on their feet are no longer exhausting. Aches and pains have decreased, body composition has changed, and both report significantly improved energy and mental health. What stood out most was the environment: expert coaching, attention to technique, and a welcoming community that removed fear and judgment. Training together helped them stay consistent, while coaches met them where they were—physically and mentally—every step of the way. Dave and Kristina’s story highlights what PowerStrength does best: helping adults with no prior experience build confidence, strength, and long-term habits in a supportive, coached environment. Their progress is proof that you don’t need a fitness background to get started—just the willingness to take the first step.

JACK PATTERSON

Building the Foundation Early: How Speed, Agility, and Confidence Come Together in the PowerStrength Youth Academy

We’ve seen a huge shift in his confidence. Before, he was kind of timid. Now you can see him out there thinking, "I can do this."

Amanda Patterson enrolled her 9-year-old son, Jack, not to lift heavy weights—but to build confidence, movement skills, and a strong foundation for the future. As a baseball and tennis athlete, Jack needed age-appropriate training focused on speed, coordination, technique, and enjoyment—not scaled-down Varsity workouts. Through small-group, individualized coaching, Jack has developed better movement patterns, improved speed and agility, and—most importantly—gained confidence. That confidence now shows up not only in sports, but at school and at home, where he is more willing to take chances and believe in himself. Amanda initially wondered if starting this young was too soon. After seeing the structure and intent of the Youth Academy, she now believes starting earlier is smarter, safer, and more effective. The program prioritizes movement first, strength later, and long-term development—creating healthy habits that carry into adolescence and adulthood. As PowerStrength expands with new Youth-only facilities, this story reinforces the mission: provide a supportive, focused environment where young athletes can grow independently, feel safe, and see measurable progress. The Youth Academy serves as the foundation for long-term athletic development, preparing athletes for the transition into Freshman, JV, and Varsity training with confidence, skill, and a love for movement already established. PowerStrength doesn’t rush development—it builds it intentionally, starting early.

JASON FOGELSONGER

Less Guesswork. More Progress. A Smarter Way to Train

I’m lifting more weight than I have ever lifted—even compared to when I was 18, 19, 20 years old.

Jason Fogelsonger’s story reflects a common challenge for adults: staying consistent while balancing work, family, and long-term health. Before joining PowerStrength, Jason tried home workouts, Peloton rides, and big-box gyms. While he stayed active, none of those options delivered efficient training, accountability, or sustainable results. In June 2025, Jason committed to PowerStrength’s Personal Training Program for adults in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. His primary goal was efficiency—he needed a plan that fit his schedule and removed the guesswork. A doctor visit revealing high blood pressure reinforced the need for a smarter, long-term approach. Since starting at PowerStrength, Jason has gone from spending multiple hours per night in the gym to just three hours per week—while getting stronger than ever. He is now lifting more weight than he did in his late teens and has reached milestones he never thought possible, including a 340-pound deadlift. Beyond strength gains, Jason credits the structured programming, certified coaching, and accountability for keeping him consistent. Training alongside other adults in a supportive environment has created motivation, camaraderie, and confidence inside and outside the gym. The impact extends beyond physical performance. Jason reports improved mental clarity, reduced stress, and restored confidence. His blood pressure has returned to normal, and he feels stronger, healthier, and more balanced in daily life. What started as a six-month commitment has turned into a long-term investment in his health. Jason’s experience reinforces what PowerStrength provides for adults 40+: efficient training, expert coaching, and an environment designed to support real life—physically and mentally.

NOLAN LAROSE

Building It Early: How Nolan Larose’s 7-Year PowerStrength Journey Is Paying Off

When I step on the field, there’s just a level of confidence.

Nolan Larose began training at PowerStrength as a 4th grader, gaining early exposure to structured coaching, accountability, and a high-performance environment alongside older athletes. Now a Junior preparing for the jump from JV to Varsity baseball, Nolan is seeing the long-term payoff of intentional development. Over seven years of consistent training, his on-field performance has taken a major leap, including a jump in batting average from roughly .300 to .420. Currently in his second year of Premier, PowerStrength’s most advanced training program, Nolan has added significant size, strength, and confidence while training in a competitive, standards-driven environment. That work has translated directly to how he carries himself on the field—especially stepping into the batter’s box—knowing he has prepared at a Varsity level. Nolan’s journey highlights why starting early matters: learning proper movement, building habits, and developing confidence well before high school creates a compounding advantage over time. His experience reflects the mission behind The PowerStrength Academy and serves as a clear example of how long-term development, strong coaching relationships, and a positive culture produce confident, prepared athletes ready for the next level—Youth, Freshman, JV, and Varsity.

MONICA STEGEMAN

Monica’s Story: Confidence, Strength, and Finding the Fun Again

MY best friend mentioned that i seem way more confident.

Monica Stegeman joined PowerStrength after decades of physical setbacks, including back surgery 22 years ago, a long-standing shoulder injury, and repeated cycles of physical therapy. While she stayed active through yoga, Pilates, and home workouts, ongoing pain and flare-ups prevented long-term progress and consistency. Initially hesitant about strength training, Monica was encouraged by both her husband (a PowerStrength member) and her physical therapist to try the program. Her first session, which emphasized movement quality, gradual progression, and individualized pacing, immediately changed her perception of training. Through small group personal training, Monica rebuilt strength safely while learning how to move with confidence and proper mechanics. Rather than pushing intensity, she progressed in controlled increments under expert coaching, which allowed her to train consistently without aggravating past injuries. Beyond physical improvements—such as increased strength, weight loss, and higher energy—Monica experienced significant gains in confidence, body awareness, and overall well-being. She credits the structured programming, trusted coaching, and supportive group environment for making training enjoyable and sustainable. Today, Monica feels better in daily life and work, understands how to move safely, and genuinely looks forward to training. Her experience highlights how progressive, well-coached strength training can help adults rebuild confidence, reduce pain, and find enjoyment in fitness again.

BRYCE BACKUS

How Bryce Backus has Gone From 4th Grade Foundations to Division I Dreams

I think just coming here for like, a year just made a huge difference. I actually learned how to run like an athlete and be an athlete.

Bryce Backus is a Junior quarterback at Caledonia High School with Division I offers from Toledo and Kent State—and his development is a clear example of the power of long-term training. Bryce began training at PowerStrength in the 4th grade, where he learned foundational movement skills, including how to run and move like an athlete. That early investment set the stage for his growth throughout middle school and high school. Now a member of PowerStrength’s most advanced training program, Premier, Bryce continues to level up both physically and mentally. Premier has helped him build structure around training, recovery, sleep, and nutrition while training alongside other high-level athletes who push the standard daily. Despite balancing Varsity basketball during the Winter, Bryce has remained consistent in the weight room. After a shortened Junior football season due to injury, Bryce is focused on adding lean muscle to his 6’3” frame to improve durability and prepare for his senior year and college football. As he approaches a college decision, Bryce is confident that PowerStrength has prepared—and will continue to prepare—him for whatever path he chooses next.

TIM BALLINGER

A New Beginning: How Tim Made More Progress in 1 Year Than in 25

I've actually gotten more gains here than I have in the last 25, 30 years from lifting.

After 25–30 years of lifting on his own, Tim Ballinger thought he had his routine dialed in. But in just one year of training at PowerStrength, he’s made more measurable progress than he did in decades working out alone. Training inside our small group model with certified coaches, Tim has become stronger than he was in his 20s—while feeling better and recovering smarter. He’s lifting more weight, has more energy at work, and finds everyday tasks easier than they used to be. Beyond the physical gains, he values the structure, accountability, and friendly competition that push him each week. With improved nutrition, consistent programming, and professional guidance, Tim isn’t just maintaining—he’s progressing. As he looks ahead, his focus is longevity and staying strong for the next chapters of life. In his words, PowerStrength is “a new beginning” — and proof that the right coaching can unlock potential most people don’t realize they still have.

FAR OUT VOLLEYBALL PARTNERSHIP

PowerStrength & FaR Out Volleyball: Stronger Together

I’m way more explosive, and I can move to the ball faster.

FaR Out Volleyball and PowerStrength have partnered for over a decade to develop stronger, faster, and more explosive volleyball athletes. Now, with both organizations operating inside the Special Olympics of Michigan Unified Sports & Inclusion Center, that partnership has become fully integrated. Strength and sport are no longer separate — they’re built into the same weekly rhythm.

Measurable Results

Athletes are seeing rapid, objective performance gains:

  • +4 inches in vertical (Piper Vugteveen, 15 Black)
  • +2.5 inches in vertical (Emma Ruffino, 15 Diamond)
  • Improved explosiveness, first-step quickness, and lateral speed
  • Increased swing power and serve consistency
  • Noticeable stamina improvements during conditioning

These gains are translating directly to the court — higher blocks, more powerful swings, faster ball pursuit, and better overall movement efficiency.

What’s Driving the Results

FaR Out-specific training sessions focus on:

  • Vertical force production
  • Acceleration and deceleration mechanics
  • Lateral speed and reaction time
  • Upper-body strength for swing velocity
  • Injury prevention targeting volleyball-specific weaknesses

This is progressive, sport-specific performance training — not generic conditioning.

Culture & Confidence

Athletes consistently highlight the environment:

  • Welcoming, motivating coaches
  • Competitive yet supportive team atmosphere
  • Stronger team bonding off the court
  • Growing confidence and leadership

The integration has accelerated development by combining skill refinement with physical capacity expansion — all under one roof.

The Bottom Line

The long-standing partnership between FaR Out Volleyball and PowerStrength has entered a new phase. With shared space, shared athletes, and a shared mission, performance gains are happening faster — and carrying over immediately to competition. The pathway is clear. The environment is aligned. The results are already showing.

CINDY KELLEY

Zero Pain. Zero Doubt. Cindy'S Game-Changing Year

Not having pain, knowing that I can be me again without pain, is kind of a cool thing.

At 54 years old, Cindy Kelley made a proactive decision to take control of her health. After noticing weight gain and concerning bloodwork trends, she increased her training from 2–3 days per week to 4 and committed to improving her nutrition. Since May, Cindy has:

  • Lost 47 pounds
  • Dropped eight clothing sizes
  • Maintained her muscle mass
  • Eliminated chronic knee pain
  • Returned to running and completed multiple 5Ks
  • Regained the ability to perform full, pain-free squats
  • Started playing basketball again

Her progress was steady and sustainable — averaging about two pounds every two weeks — with a strong emphasis on preserving muscle through progressive strength training and body composition tracking. Despite a history of five knee surgeries, Achilles surgery, a fractured ankle, and other setbacks, Cindy is now pain-free and says she feels stronger than she has in over 20 years. Equally important was the environment. After years of being self-conscious about her weight, Cindy opened up to coaches and workout partners about her goals and found unwavering support. Her words say it best: “Zero pain… I’m in shock.” “A lifesaver. Game changer. Absolute game changer.” Cindy’s transformation isn’t just about weight loss — it’s about reclaiming health, confidence, and the ability to live actively without limitations.

JACK & REESE PIROG

More Than Stronger Athletes: PowerStrength Youth Academy Is Helping Kids Grow in Confidence and Character

When people ask why our kids are doing well, there’s a strong reason why…the work they’re putting in here.

Brian and Katie Pirog enrolled their children, Jack (10) and Reese (8), in the PowerStrength Youth Training Program to give them a stronger athletic foundation beyond their sports of golf, lacrosse, and gymnastics.  Through structured coaching focused on movement, strength, and confidence, both athletes have seen significant improvements. Jack has nearly doubled his golf driving distance and plays with far more confidence on the lacrosse field, while Reese has complemented her intense gymnastics schedule and has already won two competitions at her level this season.  Beyond performance, the Pirogs say the biggest impact has been increased confidence, leadership, and life skills developed through the supportive coaching and community environment. They now actively recommend the program to other families because of the positive growth they’ve seen in both of their kids.

DAWN DEYOUNG

Her Happy Place: How Dawn Found Strength, Energy, and a New Beginning at 60

I'm not trying to be in my 20s, 30s, or even 40s. But I want to be my best in my 60s — and I feel this is the way to do it.

After a full year away from training following sinus surgery, Dawn DeYoung knew she needed to get back — she just needed the right environment to do it. At 60 years old, she found that fit at PowerStrength Byron Center. What stood out immediately was the difference in structure and support. Instead of trying to keep up in a crowded, younger gym setting, Dawn stepped into a small group environment built for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s — where coaching is personalized, progress is guided, and safety is a priority. Within just a few months, the impact has been clear. Dawn is stronger, has more energy, and is moving better through long days running her business. The constant tension she used to carry in her neck and shoulders is starting to fade, and her overall mindset has shifted in a positive direction. A big part of that progress comes from the coaching — having someone push her beyond what she would do on her own, while making sure every movement is done the right way. Combined with a small, supportive training group, it’s created an environment she looks forward to showing up to each week. For Dawn, this isn’t about chasing the past — it’s about building toward the future. With a goal of staying active and independent well into her later years, she’s committed to becoming her best in her 60s — and now has a clear path to get there. PowerStrength has become exactly what she needed: A place where she can consistently show up, be pushed, and continue getting better.

KAI VANDERKODDE

Turning Hard Work Into All-Conference Honors

Everything I feel has gone up a lot.

When Kai VanderKodde walked into PowerStrength as a Freshman at NorthPointe Christian, he weighed just 110 pounds and knew exactly what he was up against. At 5’10” in a game built for size, he understood that if he wanted to compete — and eventually play college basketball — he couldn’t afford weaknesses. So he went to work. Over the past two years, Kai has added 35 pounds to his frame while dramatically improving his strength, speed, and explosiveness. What started as a goal to simply hold his own defensively has turned into becoming one of the most complete players in his conference. Now a 3-year Varsity player, Junior team captain, and 1st Team All-Conference selection, Kai has developed into a player who can impact the game on both ends of the floor — finishing through contact, defending bigger opponents, and playing with a level of physicality that once held him back. But the biggest shift hasn’t just been physical. It’s been the confidence built through consistent training, structure, and coaching. Session by session, Kai has developed the discipline and mindset needed to compete at a high level — and lead. He trains year-round, staying consistent both in-season and off-season, driven by a clear goal and a standard he holds himself to. For Kai, this process has never been about shortcuts. It’s been about building — strength, confidence, and a complete game — to put himself in position for the next level. And now, with college basketball opportunities already on the radar, he’s doing exactly that.

ALL-CONFERENCE BASKETBALL

28 PowerStrength Athletes Earn All-Conference Honors In Basketball This Season

It was a basketball season to remember for PowerStrength athletes. Across all levels — from Sophomores to Seniors, boys and girls, and multi-sport competitors — 28 athletes who train, or have trained, at PowerStrength earned All-Conference honors this Winter. This group didn’t just show up — they delivered. From 1,000-point scorers and record-breaking careers to State Championship runs and breakout seasons, these athletes made a major impact on their teams and across their conferences. The list includes 4-year Varsity players, multi-time All-Conference selections, and rising underclassmen already establishing themselves as top players in the area. Several are continuing their careers at the collegiate level, while others are quickly building toward that opportunity. What stands out isn’t just the recognition — it’s the consistency behind it. Year-round training, commitment to development, and a willingness to do the extra work continue to translate directly to performance when it matters most. From established Seniors closing out elite careers to underclassmen setting the tone for what’s next, this group represents the standard. 28 athletes. One consistent approach. Show up, put in the work, and keep getting better.

LOWELL FOUR HORSEMEN

How Four Seniors Used PowerStrength to Level Up — Together

The progress I made over the past three months has been insane!

Four Lowell Seniors — Brady Smith, Brody Lehman, Jack Iakiri, and Nathen Raison — capped off their final Fall season by helping lead Lowell Football to a state semifinal run, then doubled down on their development in the Winter through PowerStrength’s Premier Advanced Training Program. The result: measurable, high-level performance gains across the board. From major body composition changes and speed improvements to standout Combine numbers, each athlete showed what long-term commitment to structured training, coaching, and accountability can produce. Brady added over 20 pounds while running a 4.67 40. Brody continued building on nearly a decade of development. Jack elevated his performance after just one year in the program. Nathen reinforced his readiness for the next level as a two-sport athlete. All four are now heading to the college level — Air Force/Navy/Northwood (Brady), Northern Michigan (Brody), North Central (Jack), and Alma (Nathen) — prepared both physically and mentally for what’s next. More than the results, this group represents what happens when athletes train with consistency, compete alongside the right people, and raise the standard together. Four athletes. Four college futures. One standard.

STEFANIE ACKERMANN

Broken Down at 43. Stronger Than Ever at 53.

"I just feel better. I just don't feel as washed up.

Stefanie Ackermann spent nearly a decade battling through breast cancer, multiple surgeries, joint disorders, and chronic back pain that at times left her unable to get off the floor. A former college cross-country and track athlete, she was forced to step away from the active lifestyle that once defined her. At 53 — and 10 years cancer-free — Stefanie made the decision to walk into PowerStrength in Fall 2024, despite believing she might be “too broken” to train. Since starting, Stefanie has transformed both physically and mentally. With individualized coaching built around her limitations, she has trained consistently for over a year without a single back setback — a major breakthrough after years of recurring pain. Her daily life has completely changed:

  • Minimal to no back pain upon waking
  • Strength to handle everyday tasks like carrying groceries and cleaning without fatigue
  • Ability to travel long distances comfortably
  • Even regaining overhead mobility — something she once thought was gone for good

Beyond the physical wins, Stefanie rediscovered something just as important — confidence, community, and the ability to push herself again. Her message is simple and powerful: No matter your age, injuries, or past — it’s never too late to start getting stronger.
