Year 6 to 7 Transition

Enrolling for Year 7 2027

Thank you to all the amazing families who came along to our Information Evening last night. The hall was full to capacity with people interested in finding more about our great school. If you are interested in enrolling your Year 6 child at Byron Bay High School for Year 7 next year, there is a 2-step process for enrolment that you need to follow.

We are currently at STEP 1 - the Expressions of Interest stage.

Year 6 families are encouraged to complete an online 'Moving to high school expression of interest' (EOI):

  • Expressions of Interest opened on 2 March 2026
  • Visit the ‘Moving to high school’ link on your primary school’s website and indicate which high school(s) you’d like your child to attend.
  • Your address will determine your designated (catchment) high school.
  • You can express an interest in your child attending Byron Bay High School even if you live out of area - however, offers for out of area students will depend on whether there are places available after we process all our in-catchment students.

Once the Expression of Interest process has closed, and we know how many students are interested in attending Byron Bay High School, we will begin making offers to enrol.

Congratulations to our 2026 Student Leaders

Meet our 2026 Student Representative Council

This week, our school proudly held the SRC Induction Assembly, officially welcoming the newly elected Student Representative Council members into their leadership roles.

The assembly was well-attended by students and parents who came together to celebrate and support our student leaders as they pledged to represent the voices of their peers throughout the year.

This moment was a proud highlight for the entire school community, showcasing the commitment, leadership, and responsibility of our SRC members. We look forward to a year of positive impact and strong student representation. Congratulations to all our 2026 Student Leaders!

Stage 6 Debating - Round 1 Highlights

Byron Bay vs Bellingen

Our Senior debaters preparing for the their Round 1 debate

On Friday 6 March, our debating team celebrated the start of the 2026 debating season with the first round of the Stage 6 competition.

Our Byron Bay High School Seniors, featuring speakers Coco L, Tee I, Jolie S and Hannah C, as well as chairperson Xavier A, took on Bellingen High School, addressing the negative side of the topic ‘Books should never be banned from study or schools because of the beliefs or actions of their authors’.

Unfortunately, despite our strong arguments, Byron Bay High School was narrowly defeated by an equally strong Bellingen team. Despite this, we are now revitalised and ready for our next round!

Year 7 Drama workshops with Year 10

On Tuesday morning, a small focus group of Year 7 students who have shown a keen interest in Drama, attended a workshop run by our Year 10 Drama students. The workshop was part of the research process for Year 10 in their current devised theatre project.

Year 10 are in the early stages of devising a play for Year 6 students centring around the themes of Image Vs Reality, and how young people may mask their true selves in real life or online.

Year 10 Drama students demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills as they guided the Year 7 students through discussions, warm up's and dramatic scene work. Our wonderful Year 7 students showed openness, focus, and excellent collaboration and stage skills, as they offered ideas and opinions on the topic and worked with Year 10 to improvise short dramatic moments relevant to them.

These ideas have helped Year 10 access real voices and stories to influence their creative direction, and the development of characters for their play.

On behalf of the Year 10 Drama students, we thank Year 7 for their mature and thoughtful contributions.  Watch this space…...

North Coast AFL representatives

Our AFL boys are off to Sydney!

Congratulations to Koa D, Leo L, Dusty M,  and Finley S, who recently attended the North Coast AFL 14s Boys trials and were all successful in gaining selection!

The boys showcased their outstanding skills and game awareness throughout the trials, which earned them a place in the North Coast team. They will now go on to represent the region at the NSW CHS Championships to be held in Hoxton Park, Sydney!

We wish the boys all the very best as they compete at the next level — a fantastic achievement!

Due to the change in age division this year by NSW CHS, 15s Boys will be invited to trial in Term 2.  The trials will allow the 15s Boys the opportunity to be selected to play in an exhibition style championship. Stay tuned, more info is to come...

North Coast Regional Canoeing

2026 North Coast Regional Canoeing Championships will not proceed

In consultation with the North Coast Sports Office, a decision was made not to run the 2026 Championship. This decision was based on the very low number of competitors and schools able to participate. The NSWCHSSA Canoeing Championships will still go ahead, with proposed dates from Saturday 16 May to Tuesday 19 May. All students that meet the minimum safety requirements are eligible to enter and North Coast competitors are strongly encouraged to attend this event. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Mark Ellis. mark.ellis11@det.nsw.edu.au.

I am pleased to advise that our Senior jerseys/sweaters are now available for order.  There is no obligation to purchase a jersey or sweater, however they are a good quality keepsake and a rite of passage for our Senior students. Our cohort will not only look great in their jerseys/sweaters, but it will also give them a sense of identity over the next 2 years.

Year 12 2027 jersey options

Our Student Design Team have worked hard to produce 3 great designs for the Year 11 students to choose from:

  • Rugby Jersey - $99.50 each (2 designs to choose from)
  • Quarter-Zip Sweater - $94.50 each (1 design)

You can place your orders from now until Thursday 26 March... There is only a 2-week window in which to place an order, so don't delay.

What to do it your child needs to leave school early

If your child needs to leave school early for any reason, we ask that parents/carers write us a short handwritten note stating:

  • the date
  • your child's name
  • the leaving time
  • a reason why they are leaving, and
  • who will be picking them up

Your child will present your note to their Deputy Principal before 9 am and a Leave Slip will be printed at the office. Then, at the approved pick-up time your child can quietly leave their classroom and meet you at the car!

Our office does not accept email requests for early leave. If you did not have the chance to write a handwritten note, please come into the office to collect your child, allowing time for our staff to get your child out of class.

Please note: Students can only leave school with a parent/carer or a person who is listed as an Emergency Contact on their enrolment form.
