Conferences update

Conferences are right around the corner. This will be different for your child this year. Instead of simply meeting with one individual teacher, you will have an opportunity to meet with all of the teachers your child has at EMS. Each conference will be limited to 5 minutes with each teacher. Please sign-up for ONE time frame below on the sing-up genius link, this time frame will allow you time to visit each teacher. Thank you!

Science

Students finished their Scientific Method Unit, which concluded with a "Drops on a Penny" lab they completed on their own.

During October we will continue to work on our Waves Unit.

Social Studies

We have spent the last couple of weeks learning about life in Ancient Egypt. A few of the topics that students learned about in this chapter were pharaohs, mummies, pyramids, and hieroglyphics. Next, we will learn about what life was like in Ancient India and Ancient China.

ELA

We will be starting a new unit this month based on various novels. Students have an opportunity to read their own book of choice (from 13 pre-selected titles) and then create a book talk synopsis of the story. This is always a fun unit for the kids as they have a choice in what they are reading in class. Be sure to ask your child about the novel they have chosen to read!

Next up for grammar - conjunctions and expanding sentences.

Math

October is a busy month in math, we will be taking our State Assessment Interim, finishing topic 2, and start topic 3. Topic 3 we will be talking about numeric and algebraic expressions, this is when we start to learn about variables and the Order of Operations! Be sure to keep an eye on powerschool for grades and missing work.

We will also be joined by a student teacher starting Oct. 9th, her name is Ms. Humble and we are very excited for her to join us at EMS. She has spent the last nine weeks at EES with Mrs. Orlando.

PE / Health

In PE we will to continue to work on foundational strength movements. We will be finishing our Sabakiball unit and beginning the soccer and ultimate football units. We will begin working on the steps in making good decisions in our health classroom.
