CISA/NCS⁴ Releases Lightning Safety Guide for Sports and Special Events

The NCS⁴ values its important partnership with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to produce critical resources for the sport and special event industry. We hope this resource will be helpful to safety and security planning teams preparing for events, regardless of size and scope. The Lightning Safety Guide for Sports and Special Events provides practical, scalable guidance for venue owners, operators, and event organizers, highlighting:

  • Why lightning poses a serious and unpredictable risk to outdoor events
  • The importance of preparation, clear decision points, and defined roles
  • Best practices for lightning monitoring, protective actions, and event operations
  • Provides “tear away” checklists for small and large events

The Center for Internet Security Releases Whitepaper

Deepfakes and Synthetic Media: The Emerging Threat to Large-Scale Public Gatherings

This white paper characterizes the deepfake and synthetic media threat to large-scale events, including threat actors and motivations along with observed tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) across pre-event, event, and post-event phases. It also provides operationally relevant mitigation guidance for event organizers, law enforcement, and security practitioners. The threat environment now includes the generation of synthetic content that can overwhelm information environments, crowd out trusted signals, degrade trust in legitimate communications, and increasingly target broadcast systems, financial markets, and high-visibility individuals in real time.

Health Security Operations Center (HSOC) at Georgetown University

The Health Security Operations Center (HSOC) is a non-governmental public health intelligence fusion center that collects, reviews and interprets data in order to provide guidance and support to local, state and national public health authorities during events with national, regional and international reach. The HSOC brings together a network of collaborators to support coordinated, real-time awareness and action in response to infectious disease risks. HSOC is standing up for the Summer 2026 World Cup and other mass gathering events.     Situation reports will be published daily at 13:30 EDT.

Showstop® Procedure E-Learning Course Goes Multilingual

The Introduction to Showstop® Procedure Course, launched March 2026, is now available in nine languages, increasing global accessibility and supporting the international adoption of a consistent, defensible approach to event safety.  New translations in German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Dutch, and Italian translations, alongside English, aim to strengthen international events safety culture. This expansion of Showstop’s E-Learning platform makes it easier, and more cost-effective, for event professionals anywhere in the world to engage with the award winning, widely endorsed emergency protocol.  Since launching in March, over 300 people have registered for the E-Learning module. This multi-lingual rollout supports the extensive campaign, spearheaded by The Pink Bows Foundation, in memory of Madison Dubiski, to establish the global implementation of the Showstop® Procedure for live performances, sports, entertainment and cultural events.

Fundamentals of Crowd Safety Course

NCS⁴ and GKStill International have partnered to jointly offer the Fundamentals of Crowd Safety online eLearning course to address capability gaps in crowd behavior and sciences. Professor Dr. G. Keith Still, Visiting Professor of Crowd Science at the University of Suffolk, developed this certified, accredited course. The course offers an 8-hour online interactive experience designed to teach the essential elements of crowd safety and crowd risk analysis. The course is especially valuable to event organizers, as it ensures that those who complete it are compliant with the NFPA 101 - Life Safety Code — specifically, the areas of section 12 of the code that require a venue to provide a crowd manager trained in crowd management techniques for occupancies exceeding 1,000.
