April 2026

A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Happy Spring! The 4th Marking Period begins on Tuesday, March 31 and the last student day is set for June 9th!

The last quarter of the school year will go by quickly. Each grade level will be going on a field trip and we have our usual fun school events planned! Please check the PIE Facebook Page for information on volunteer opportunities for field days, Bounce House day and more!

Beginning in late April, students in Grades 3 – 5 will be taking the PSSA tests. Just as last year, students will take these assessments completely online. More information on PSSA Testing is attached in the links below. As a reminder, PSSA Testing is a state requirement for all students. At NWE, we emphasize to students that they simply need to try their best. This is one data snapshot that is used in combination with many other data sources to determine how we can best meet the needs of our students and identify ways we can improve our curriculum and instruction. Students are not penalized in any way for their performance on these assessments. If you have specific questions about PSSA Testing, I encourage you to reach out to me and I’ll be happy to speak with you.

Finally, with the warmer weather, students will definitely be heading outside for recess and other classroom activities. It is a safety concern if they do not have shoes with backs on them. Please make sure students wear proper shoes to school daily as well as wear appropriate clothing as outlined in the Student Dress Code.

Have a wonderful April! 🙂

Mrs. Keys

News from Nurses

It is that time of year again when we look forward to more sunny days and more time spent outside. It is also time for increased allergy and asthma symptoms and complications. Please keep the nurses updated on any medication changes that may occur for your child. Increased outdoor activities are planned throughout the rest of the school year. Please take the time to make sure the nurses have current orders and medication for your child in order to ensure that they are safe and healthy at school. A quick note/email to the teacher and/or nurses informing us of any medication given before school will also help us to assess and evaluate your child if they show up in the Health Office. Allergy medication may be helpful in managing common allergy symptoms. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Mrs. Diehl or Mrs. Lingenfelter at ext. 4205 or by email at diehlc@nwlehighsd.org , lingenfeltern@nwlehighsd.org, or nwenurses@nwlehighsd.org.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month: Building Community, Building Hope

This month and throughout the year, Northwestern Lehigh School District encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making our community a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect by making meaningful connections with children, youth and families in our communities

Research shows that protective factors are present in healthy families. Promoting these factors is among the most effective ways to reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. They are:

  • Nurturing and attachment
  • Knowledge of parenting and of child and youth development
  • Social connections
  • Concrete supports for parents
