JKS Lab Weekly Seminars

The information below is for current JKS lab members. Below are the instructions for lab members set to present soon and the presentation schedule for this semester.

The JKS lab holds weekly seminars for the entire group to meet. The subject of the seminar alternates between a research update and literature club presentation. The group seminars are held currently held Mondays at 12 PM or Wednesdays at 11 AM in the Wexford Conference Room 304. If group members are unable to make it in-person, Zoom attendance is also welcome (Dr. Klein-Seetharaman can forward the link).

Instructions for Presenters

Preparing for Research Update Presentations

Research update presentations should provide general background information on the project the presenter is working on and key results & developments since the previous update. For previously presented research updates, see the seminar Google Drive.

  1. Create a slideshow (can use PowerPoint or Google Slides).
  2. Write a report in the style of a paper (including an abstract, a detailed introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections) summarizing your research.
  3. Name the research update slideshow using the following format: First&LastName_mmddyyyy(.ppt).
  4. Name the research update report using the following format: First&LastName_mmddyyyy(.doc).
  5. Upload the slideshow and report into the seminar Google Drive, making sure to upload into the current semester's folder. Send the link for each file to Dr. Klein-Seetharaman.
  6. Link the slides and report below (ask Shazeen if you need assistance).
Preparing for Literature Club Presentations

Literature club presentations focus on one or more papers on a topic of the presenter's choice. The topic can be related to the presenter's project. For previous literature club presentations, see the seminar Google Drive.

  1. Chose one or more papers to present.
  2. Create a slideshow presentation of the MOST IMPORTANT points you found useful (you do not need to present everything from a the paper). Include slides on background information, methods, key results, discussion, and relevance to the lab.
  3. Name the literature club slideshow using the following format: FirstNameLastName_mmddyyyy_literature(.ppt).
  4. Name the PDF file for the literature club paper using the following format: PresenterFirst&LastName_mmddyyyy_Paper1stAuthorLastNameJournalNameYear(.pdf)

Additional Pointers
  • All documents must be uploaded into the seminar Google Drive BEFORE your seminar.
  • There are no separate folders for research update and literature club presentations, so please make sure to name the files consistently to keep them together within the same folder.
  • If you are uploading a presentation other than literature club or research update, i.e. a practice talk for a conference or committee meeting, add the description to the naming convention at the end. For example, if you are presenting at a PSB meeting: FirstNameLastName _mmddyyyy_PSBmtg(.ppt)
  • The meeting host(s) will upload the meeting recording after the seminar.

Schedule of Seminars

Sample Listing

Date. Presenter. Presentation Type. Presentation Link. Supplemental File* Link. Link of Recording.

*Supplemental file for research update presentation would be the written report. For literature club presentations, it would be the paper presented on.

Seminars are held every Monday at 12 PM, unless otherwise specified. The order of presenters is Naven, Shazeen, Chase, Meghana, and Kristina. Presenters choose between a literature club or a research update talk, however Dr. Klein-Seetharaman prefers each presenter alternates between the two (deliver a literature club presentation on one occasion and a research update the next time the same person presents). If presenters need to switch slots with another person, they should confirm with the person they would like to switch with and then email Dr. Klein-Seetharaman.
