Drexel Athletics Posts Record Fundraising Success
Drexel Athletics and the Dragon Club achieved a record fundraising year in 2024-25, raising $2.16 million in cash, eclipsing the $2 million mark for the first time. Overall, more than $3.1 million in new gifts and commitments were made to support student-athlete success.
The $2.16 million in cash was a 77% increase and nearly $1 million more than the previous fiscal year. In total, 2,749 donations were made by 2,010 unique alumni, parents, fans and friends to the Dragon Club during the fiscal year.
“The support and investment of alumni, parents and friends is essential to providing resources and an infrastructure that contribute to an outstanding student-athlete experience and the success of our programs. The work of Assistant VP Bryan Davis and our staff sets a new bar for our department. We are grateful to our constituents, who believe in the mission of Drexel University Athletics.” stated Vice President, Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly.
Buckley Field and Bubble Open at Vidas Athletic Complex
Drexel Athletics opened a new turf field and Buckley Bubble at the Vidas Athletic Complex. The addition provides varsity athletics, club sports and intramurals with an indoor space during the winter months and an additional artificial field for year-round use.
Drexel Inducts Six New Members into the Athletics Hall of Fame
Drexel Athletics inducted six new members into the Janet E. and Barry C. Burkholder Athletics Hall of Fame on January 25 during Homecoming Weekend. The 2025 class was comprised of Gabriela Marginean '10 (women's basketball), Joe Linderman '01 (men's basketball), Ryan Hluschak '08 (wrestling), Emily Hoesch '07 (women's lacrosse), Kerry Kelly '07 (women's lacrosse) and former soccer head coach and administrator Johnson Bowie.
Spirit Team Alumni Achieving Personal, Professional Success
Former Drexel Dance team members Paige DeAngelo and Erin Nipps have continued to excel in their personal and professional careers beyond University City. Paige and Erin are both professional dancers, Paige for the Philadelphia Flyers and Erin for the Philadelphia Eagles.
In addition to their spirit accomplishments, what they are doing off the field may be even more impressive. Paige is starting a sustainable makeup company called AER Cosmetics and Erin works with the department of health.
Student-Athletes Return to Campus for Networking Event and Alumni Days
Athletics alumni returned to campus to share career advice with more than 75 student-athletes during Drexel’s second annual Student-Athlete Alumni Mentoring / Networking Night on Feb. 6 at Lebow Hall. Alumni provided guidance on how to navigate their professional careers after Drexel.
Drexel welcomed more than 250 former student-athletes and families back to campus in the fall and spring for Alumni Day at Vidas Field. Alumni from field hockey, soccer and lacrosse were invited to cheer on the Dragons, while joining teammates and friends for the "Fill the Hill" tailgate.
