Eight Drexel Teams Earn Perfect Scores on NCAA APR

Drexel had eight teams achieve a perfect score on the most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR). It is the second consecutive year that eight teams recorded perfect scores. Six of Drexel's women's teams earned a score of 1000. Those included the basketball, lacrosse, softball, soccer, swimming and diving, and tennis teams. On the men's side, the basketball and golf teams were each at 1000.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

Short Named First Team Academic All-American, 20 Dragons Receive CSC Academic All-District

Patrick Short of the Drexel men's soccer team was named a College Sport Communicators First Team Academic All-American. He is the second straight Drexel men's soccer player to be named to the first team. Short, who boasted a 3.98 GPA in finance, was named the CAA's Co-Midfielder of the Year and All-CAA First Team.

In addition, 20 Dragons were named CSC Academic All-District. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be of sophomore standing or higher, hold a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA, and be a key contributor to their team. Among the honored Dragons were:

Eight Drexel Teams Achieve 100 Percent on the 2024 NCAA Graduation Success Rate

Eight of Drexel's varsity athletic teams scored 100 percent on the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) announced by the NCAA. It marks the fifth straight academic year that Drexel has had at least seven teams achieve 100 percent on the GSR. Overall, Drexel Athletics scored 93 percent on the GSR. Drexel had six women's teams and two men's team score 100 percent on the GSR. The women's teams that achieved a perfect score were basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and diving and tennis. For the men, the basketball and golf teams each had a score of 100 percent.

The GSR is a measure that the NCAA uses to evaluate academic performance and includes first time freshmen student-athletes from the 2017-18 cohort, mid-year freshmen student-athletes and those student-athletes that transferred into the institution.

Drue Nicholas Named Philly-SIDA Academic Performer of the Year, 13 Dragons Earn Academic All-Area Team Honors

Drue Nicholas of the Drexel golf team was named the Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for Men's Golf. The Academic All-Area Team is voted on by the 30 universities in the greater Philadelphia area. In order to be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must be in their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Joe Steinhardt Named Drexel’s Faculty Athletic Representative

Associate Professor Joe Steinhardt has been named Drexel's Faculty Athletic Representative. Steinhardt teaches in the school's Music Industry Program. The Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), who is appointed by the President, serves as a liaison between the University and Athletics. It is the responsibility of the Faculty Athletic Representative to help ensure academic integrity, support institutional control and enhance the academic experience.

The FAR also serves as a liaison with faculty members, assists with interpreting institutional academic policies and supports health & well-being matters of student-athletes.

321 Dragons Named to CAA Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Drexel placed 321 student-athletes on the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll during the 2024-25 academic year. That total included 281 individuals recognized during the fall and 277 honored during the spring. Student-athletes on the commissioner's Academic Honor Roll must have participated in a CAA sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during the designated academic term and have been enrolled as a full-time student.
