Grange First Weekly News Week 2 Summer 2 - 13.06.25

Year 1 Phonic Check Champions!

Our Year 1 children have impressed us so much this week with their phonics. The Phonics Screening Check is a short statutory assessment taken by all children in Year 1 in England. It is designed to assess how well children use their phonics skills to decode words. The check involves reading a list of 40 words. Some of them are real words and others are made up alien words.

I am delighted to say that our Year 1 children have done brilliantly. Their hard work and progress have been fantastic! We will share their scores on their school reports once the pass mark has been released. Well done Year 1!.

Year 4 Multiplication Check

The Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check is a statutory assessment that all Year 4 children take in June. It's a short online test designed to check how well children know their times tables up to 12x12. The check consists of 25 questions and children have 6 seconds to answer each one.

Our Year 4 children have done a great job. They approached it with confidence and gave it their best effort. We are looking forward to receiving their results soon which we will share with you in their end of year reports.

Another Busy Week!

Year 4 have had a superb computing workshop with Julian Hughes from GEM Education this week. They were learning how to do Microbit Coding. In Design and Technology, they built structures using midget gems and cocktail sticks. Next week, we will make stable and strong structures out of card.

Year 3 children have been coming to see me to share their wonderful diary

Year 1 have loved reading in the new outdoor space outside our Treehouse. We are planning a grand opening of the Treehouse on Friday 11th July.

Nursery have loved learning about birds in Forest School this week. They also enjoyed creating birds out of clay!

OPAL Play

This week we have had fun playing in our newly themed pallet houses chosen by our Opal cadets. We have our very own beach complete with sand and deck chairs. An aquarium, which is in progress, with children creating their own fact sheets and pictures and finally a Minecraft house to encourage children to be creative and build with Lego and Duplo.

Our Nursery children also enjoyed their weekly outdoor play session and this week it was in the forest school yard. They loved exploring the new pallet houses, playing in the mud and water areas enjoying the beautiful weather at the beach!

Congratulations to our Golden Welly Winners!
