The Blast

City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | July 15, 2026

Starting this month, copies of the STAR will be available inside the Harbormaster's Office, located at 400 Sierra Point Parkway (in addition to the Library, Sunrise Room, and City Hall). You may also be able to snag some freshly-popped popcorn while you're there! Note: in order to capture the results of meetings happening in late July, the publication of the August STAR will be delayed by a week. Please expect it to arrive in mailboxes the week of August 10th! You can always find electronic copies of the STAR on the City's website via the Archive Center, or reach out to the Communications Team if you're looking for a particular issue.

The Citywide Yard Sale is Here!

See the Friends of the Brisbane Library's map below for the 22 households that will be participating in this year's Citywide Yard Sale, plus more along San Francisco St. at the marketplace! This is also where the Lions will be barbecuing up all the favorites, like Lion Joe's Famous Tri-Tip Sandwich. Pre-orders are highly recommended! (Show the email receipt at the counter for pick-up.)

In conjunction with the Citywide Yard Sale, the Library will be hosting Lucha Libro on Saturday from 12 -2 PM at the Community Park. This is a co-sponsored event with the City. Come cheer, laugh, and learn as heroes read stories, teach positive values, and turn literacy into an unforgettable adventure.

Baylands Public Hearing Continued to 7/23

On June 30th, the Planning Commission held a special meeting where they continued the public hearing from June 25, 2026. After presentations by staff and consultants, Planning Commission members had a time to ask questions of staff before the public's comments were heard. Note: any written correspondences submitted prior to or presented during a meeting may be viewed by clicking on the "Other" tab, located just below the "Agenda" and "Agenda Packet" tabs. And in case you missed it, Housing Element Decertification FAQs were published last week on the City's website.

The Planning Commission will be having a continued public hearing as part of its July 23rd regular meeting at 7:30 PM, upon which they will consider commencing deliberations before making their recommendation to the City Council on the project.

Trash Talk: Sustainable Gardening

The sun is out and it’s a great time to be soaking in sunshine from your front or backyard, rooftop deck, balcony, local park, or community garden. Do you know what else is soaking in that beautiful sunshine? Plants!

Gardening provides a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, grow something beautiful, and make more sustainable choices. A few simple swaps can make a big difference. Try reusing old pots, buckets, or other containers as growing areas instead of buying new ones. As you clean up your garden, dead plants, leaves, flowers, and weeds can go into your green cart.

Our green carts are meant for nutrient-rich organic materials such as food scraps, yard trimmings, and food-soiled paper that can be processed into compost. Dirt, soil, rocks, and sand don’t need to be processed, are too heavy to collect safely, and can damage the equipment used to process organic waste.

A little dirt stuck to roots is okay, but large amounts of soil should stay out of the green cart. Please find a way to repurpose it in your garden or bring it to Blue Line Transfer for proper handling. Visit bluelinetransfer.com for operating hours, address, pricing, and instructions.

Your efforts to garden sustainably are important and appreciated. Thank you for all you do to keep our community green!

Update on Two New Stop Signs Coming to Visitacion Ave.

In last week's issue of the Blast, we discussed the conversion of Visitacion Avenue/Mariposa Street and Visitacion Avenue/Mendocino Street to all-way stop intersections. This means one new R1-1 stop sign will be installed on Visitacion Avenue in each direction of travel at both intersections. The new stop signs are intended to support the City’s ongoing efforts to improve safety, calm traffic, and encourage all modes of transportation in Brisbane.

Asst. Engineer Tomas mapping out new stop sign locations on Tuesday morning.

The stop signs were installed later that day with motorists observed to be abiding by the new traffic-calming measure. Drive safe, Brisbane!
