Redwood Park

project background & overview

Located on the western border of Apple Valley, Redwood Park is 12 acres and is divided by County Road 42. Currently, the park features a small community building and pool that are over 50 years old, three small playgrounds, two baseball diamonds, courts for basketball, tennis, and sand volleyball, two picnic pavilions, and a small parking lot. The new master plan for Redwood Park envisions a completely transformative upgrade to the park, making it a destination park in Apple Valley that is inclusive, accessible, and family-friendly.

Key components of the Redwood Park redesign include: a fully inclusive playground that is accessible to children of all abilities; new courts for tennis, pickleball, basketball, and ecuavolley; expanded on-site parking; a new community pool; a new park building that will house a community gathering space, accessible restrooms, and pool mechanical equipment; a natural stormwater area; a looped trail system to provide walkable routes to enjoy all amenities within the park; and a future pedestrian tunnel under County Road 42 to connect both sides of the park and provide visitors with safe access to all areas of the park.

The construction of the pedestrian tunnel is part of a larger County Road 42 improvement project that is being coordinated and funded by Dakota County, but the City of Apple Valley and Dakota County are working together to ensure the design and placement of the tunnel are integrated seamlessly into the Redwood Park master plan.

The total budget for this project is $16.1 million dollars.
