Rocksteady
Wow – what a performance! On Monday, Rocksteady delivered a musical extravaganza for our children. We hope they came home feeling inspired! If your child would like to learn to play the drums, keyboard, bass, vocals or guitar and be part of a real band, there’s still time to sign up. All instruments are provided, and lessons are fun and engaging. Each half term, the bands perform the songs they’ve learned to the rest of the school. If your child receives pupil premium funding, school will contribute towards the cost of lessons.

What could it be?
You might think a big cardboard box is just that – a box! But give it to Beech or Oak Class and it could become a car, spaceship, house, or even an aeroplane! There’s been so much creative and imaginative play, with plenty of teamwork, listening and cooperation on display.
Autumn Time
Our amazing caretaker, Mr Mills, spends most mornings sweeping up leaves from the driveway which is a sure sign that Autumn has arrived at Grange!
In Nursery, children took special bags home to collect treasures on an Autumn walk. They’ve found some wonderful things and loved sharing them with their friends. They even made conker runs using bits of plastic piping outside!
We have some talented artists at Grange – just look at these beautiful autumnal paintings! If you’d like to draw, paint, collage or photograph something inspired by Autumn to add to our school display, we’d love to see it. Please email it or hand it to Mrs Clougher. If you’re quick, it might be on display in time for Parents’ Evening on Monday night!

Talented Writers
In Year 3, the children have been learning to write kennings – poems made up of descriptive phrases that hint at their subject. They’ve spent the week learning what a kenning is, planning their ideas, and writing their own.
Read these fantastic kennings by Ennis and Freya and see if you can work out who they are about!
PTFA
Join us after school to make a wreath to kick off the Christmas celebrations and get creative.
Karen Alexander, our PTFA chair and local florist will provide everything you need to make a festive wreath and will guide you through making it. All profits are being donated to the PTFA.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Grange North Run and helped us raise an amazing £946!
Half of the money will be donated to St Oswald’s Hospice, and the other half will remain with the PTFA to support projects and events in school.
RESPECT
This week, our assemblies have focused on respect – what it means and how we can show it when talking to others. We explored a range of role play situations between groups of children, children and teaching staff, children and lunch staff, and children speaking with other adults in school.
The children were surprised to hear that I’ve sometimes overheard pupils saying things such as “shut up,” “No, I don’t want to,” or “You can’t tell me what to do – whatever!”
While we are fortunate that most of our children at Grange speak respectfully to others, we reminded everyone that everyone’s words matter. We encouraged children to:
• Say please and thank you
• Look at and listen to people when they are talking
• Respond politely when spoken to
Please continue to support us with this at home. I’ve already received some lovely emails from parents sharing how their children have been showing respectful behaviour and we’ve celebrated these in school!
On Monday, Mrs Kidd-Scannell and Mrs Crow will be leading an assembly about respecting OPAL Play, supported by our OPAL Cadets. More on this next week!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
We are so proud of two of our former Grange pupils who are starring in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Tyne Theatre this November! Fletcher is playing Charlie and Jude is playing Augustus Gloop.
They will be performing on the following dates:
• Tuesday 11th November – 7:00pm
• Friday 14th November – 7:00pm
• Saturday 15th November – 2:30pm
It sounds like a real treat and we can’t wait to see them shine on stage!
