Cereal Boxes
In assemblies this week, we talked about all the delicious food we have to eat at breakfast time: toast, cereal, pancakes, pastries, yoghurt, bacon sandwich, fruit…. Some families in Newcastle aren’t as fortunate and don’t have enough money to buy food for breakfast. We collect food every year for Newcastle Food Bank but this year we thought we would focus on breakfast. We would love every child to bring a box of cereal to school anytime before Thursday 23rd October. On Thursday afternoon we are going to set them up in a long line all the way along our corridor and into our hall. Then we will try to do The Domino Challenge! Watch it on this link:

Eco-School
An Eco-School is a school that cares for the environment. If you are a member of Grange Eco-Club you will
Tell our Grange family how we can make changes to improve our school
Look after our planet- e.g. save energy, grow plants, reduce waste…
Take action!
If your child is in Year 1 – Year 4 and would like to be an Eco-Warrior in our Eco-Club, they need to prepare a little presentation on what would make them the best Eco Warrior for their class. They might want to make a poster to help them to share their ideas with the class or they might prefer just to talk. The class teacher will then ask everyone in class to vote for who they would most like to represent the class as their Eco Warrior. This person will then become an Eco warrior!
Mr Oldham will be organising and leading our Eco-School Club. Once the Eco-Warriors have been elected they will carry out an environmental review of the school. They will meet on a Wednesday after school once a fortnight to carry out environmental activities. Their first project will involve a campaign to make our school streets safer at drop off and pick up time.
Please chat to your child over the weekend if they are interested in being an Eco-Warrior. Presentations will take place in classes next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Robinwood
Year 3 parents and carers- There is a Robinwood meeting on Friday 7th November straight after drop off in the school hall. PLEASE try to come so that you can find out about this wonderful opportunity. It’s also a great time to ask questions you may have or to voice any concerns. I have to ask for a £20 deposit to be paid by Thursday 13th November to secure your child’s place on this residential.
Students
At Grange we like to share our experience and knowledge of teaching with students who are training to become teachers and learning support assistants (LSAs). We currently have 2 full time apprentice LSAs in school who are very close to completing their training with us at Grange. Another trainee LSA has also just joined us one day a week in KS1/2. Miss Macauley has joined us in Willow Class as a student teacher. She will be with us until February and will teach parts of the school day supported by Mrs Tingle, Mrs Bland and Mrs Childs.
Coffee Morning at Grange
PTFA
Join us after school to make a wreath to kick off the Christmas celebrations and get creative.
Karen Alexander, our PTFA chair and local florist will provide everything you need to make a festive wreath and will guide you through making it. All profits are being donated to the PTFA.
OPAL Play Highlights This Week
This week we’ve seen lots of creativity and imagination during Opal play! Some of our Year 4 children have spent every playtime and lunchtime creating a magnificent sand masterpiece.
It’s also amazing to see what can be built with just a few crates and chairs!
Our Nursery children have also loved exploring the main yard — practising their skipping and balancing skills, and keeping active on the bikes and trampolines. A group of children showed wonderful teamwork and imagination as they built a bus together. It started as a little bus but quickly grew and grew as more passengers joined the fun!
Training Day
School is closed to all children on Friday 24th October as staff have a Training Day. We reopen on Monday 3rd November.
