Record-Setting 24 Hours of Impact Benefits Drexel Student-Athletes
Drexel Athletics set a record with 4,621 donations being made to support Dragon student-athletes during 24 Hours of Impact, the University's annual Day of Giving, on May 15. Collectively, $484,125 were raised to impact the student-athlete experience on campus.
Men's lacrosse led all programs in total dollars raised with $49,930, while women's lacrosse, wrestling and the Dragon Club (Athletics Unrestricted) also surpassed $40,000. Wrestling topped $40,000 for the fourth straight year.
Vidas Athletic Complex to Expand Usage with Addition of New Turf Field and Bubble
Drexel Athletics will add a new turf field which features an air-supported structure, commonly referred to as a bubble, to the Vidas Athletic Complex during the 2024-25 academic year. This addition to Vidas will provide varsity athletics, club sports, and intramurals with an indoor space during the winter months and an additional artificial field for year-round use.
Drexel Launches Dragon Fire Collective
Drexel Athletics announced the launch of Dragon Fire Collective, powered by Student Athlete NIL (SANIL), the official NIL Collective for Dragons Student-Athletes to leverage their Name, Image and Likeness opportunities.
The Dragon Fire Collective, in conjunction with SANIL's Student Athlete Empowerment program, facilitates NIL transactions between Drexel Student-Athletes and fans, donors and businesses. SANIL is the most experienced end-to-end NIL solution provider in the country and trusted by more than thirty universities to manage NIL programs between interested third parties and student-athletes.
Dr. Hankle Named Full-Time Sports Psychologist
In its ongoing effort to address student-athlete welfare, Drexel announced the appointment of Dr. Zach Hankle as the athletic department’s first full-time staff psychologist to enhance support and mental health resources available for all 18 varsity programs.
Cozen Court Rededicated and Cozen Family Recognized for Athletics Support
The Sam Cozen Court in the Daskalakis Athletic Center, named in 2010 in honor of the longtime head coach, was rededicated in perpetuity thanks to the generosity of Stephen Cozen and his family, who established the Samuel D. Cozen Memorial Fund in his name. The endowment will ensure that the DAC remains one of the region’s premiere sporting venues and Drexel basketball is positioned for sustained success for years to come by providing annual resources for facility maintenance, branding, sports performance equipment and technology.
Women’s Rowing Competes at Henley, Benefits from International Travel Endowment
The Drexel women's rowing team visited Henley-on-Thames, England from June 22 to July 6 to compete in the Henley Royal Regatta. One of the most prestigious rowing events in the world, the team trained and experienced the local culture during the two-week trip that was made possible thanks to the support of generous alumni, parents and friends, and was the impetus for the establishment of the new Edward Zwilling '95 and Elizabeth Mily Endowed International Travel Fund, which helps support international travel by the Men's and Women's Rowing programs.
Cultural Immersion: Women’s Soccer Takes First International Tour
Thanks to the generous support of alumni, parents and friends, members of the Drexel women's soccer team set off on the program's first-ever international trip to Costa Rica from March 24-31. The Dragons bonded as a team, participated in cultural immersion activities, trained and played two matches against local teams.
Athletics Giving Day Supports Student-Athlete Performance
Drexel hosted its inaugural Athletics Giving Day on December 11 to raise awareness and support for the people and programs behind the Dragons, including expert coaches, administrators and professional staff in the fields of academic support, sports medicine, athletic training, strength and conditioning, mental health, nutrition, physical therapy and rehabilitation, student-athlete development, marketing, communications and equipment operations.
Drexel Rowing Dedicates Three New Boats
The Drexel University rowing teams gathered in October for the dedication of three new boats – the Jim & Toni Downey, the Go Roe and the Laura Ludwick White - which were made possible thanks to the support of generous benefactors.
Alumni Return to Share Career Advice with Current Student-Athletes
More than 20 athletics alumni returned to campus to share career advice with nearly 100 student-athletes during "Life After the Game - Athlete Transition and Support," a panel discussion, networking and mentoring event at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on May 8. Alumni provided guidance on how to navigate their professional transition after Drexel and how to juggle student-athlete identity and the rigor of school and co-op.
