LPGS WINTER NEWSLETTER 2025

Message from Headteacher

As we reach the end of the Autumn Term, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredibly busy and rewarding term at Langley Park School for Girls, as showcased in this winter newsletter. Our Visual Arts faculty has provided a range of opportunities for students of Art, Photography, and Textiles through visits to exhibitions and creative spaces, allowing them to explore new techniques and gain insight from practising artists. We were delighted to welcome our Spanish exchange partners from Tenerife, strengthening our cultural connections and enriching the experiences of our students. January sees the launch of a new enterprise initiative for our Key Stage 3 students - an opportunity to develop vital skills that will serve them well in the future and may even earn them an investment in Dragon's Den or from Lord Sugar! In our Careers Academy, preparations for work experience, university applications, and apprenticeships have been in full swing, as students begin to shape their aspirations and future pathways. The Music Department has seen record numbers of students participating in clubs and ensembles, culminating in a fantastic Winter Concert that showcased their talent and dedication. Finally, we celebrated achievement across all year groups with our Subject and Values Awards during end of term assemblies — a wonderful way to recognise the hard work and commitment of our students. I would like to thank our staff, students, and families for their continued support and enthusiasm. Wishing you all a joyful Christmas break and a happy, healthy New Year. May 2026 be a year filled with opportunities, growth, and success for every member of our school community. Mr Whittle

Spanish Exchange December 2025

This month, we resumed our long standing Exchange with Colegio Cisneros Alter in Tenerife. 30 students from Tenerife came to stay with our students for a week to experience family life in England and see the sights of London. During the week, our Spanish partners went on day trips to see attractions such as the Natural History Museum, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace and Covent Garden. In the evenings and at the weekend they spent time with their partner families and got to know each other. One morning, our Spanish partners went to Clare House Primary School to speak to Year 5 about life in Tenerife and to teach them some key Spanish phrases. We can’t wait to go to Tenerife in April!

Business Newsletter Autumn 2025

Year 12 CTEC Business Visit to Park Langley Club

October saw our industrious Business team head out to our local racquet club specialist at the Park Langley Club. Students were armed with questions about customer care and satisfaction. We enjoyed a tour of the club and excellent knowledgeable staff talks from Dave and his team. Students used this trip to explore good examples of customer care, they also produce a weighty assignment work about the positive impact on businesses of looking after customers effectively, as well as the costs of not doing it properly. Towards the end of the autumn term, Y12 students used their experiences from ParkLangley to inform a role play, demonstrating their own customer approach, as part of the CTEC assignment work.

CTEC Exams

Exam excitement is mounting for CTEC Year 12 and 13 students. We are all looking forward to the Unit 2 exam on 9th January, and the Unit 3 and Unit 15 exams (12th and 13th January respectively). We wish students all the best in these forthcoming exams.

A-Level Business

A-Level Business students have been diligently prepping for the November trial exams. We are gearing up for the 3 x 2 hour exams in May and June. Year 13 students are acting on the feedback they received from their trial exams and Year 12 are basking in the success of their recent trial exams.

Enterprise Team

We are delighted to announce the start of Enterprise Team for Key Stage 3 students, starting in January 2026. Once a week, students in years 7, 8 and 9 will have the opportunity to discuss business ideas with some of our 6th form business students, and plan for their moneymaking ventures. Students will be able to attend an extra curricular club to think like an entrepreneur, hear from entrepreneurs, and make the jump into Entrepreneurship Territory at LPGS.

LPGS Careers Academy

Merry Christmas to you all from the LPGS Careers Academy! We have had a great term and, as always, are so proud of so many of you pursuing work experience, creating some fantastic LinkedIn posts, coming to us for advice, completing your careers quizzes and engaging with our World of Work sessions      1) Work Experience - This term, we have launched both our Year 10 and Year 12 work experience programmes for 2026!   Work experience is such a great way to gain an insight into the career or industry you might want to work in, it is a chance to meet new people and learn new skills.  Every year, we hear from at least one former student who tells us that they now work for the employer they did work experience with while they were at LPGS - your work experience week really could therefore change your life! Well done to the students who have already secured work experience placements and put these onto Unifrog.  The earlier you do this, the more it helps us to be able to do all of the required employer checks - thank you!   To remind you, our work experience dates and deadlines for the placements to be put on Unifrog are below...   Year 10 Work experience dates - 11th -15th May 2026 Deadline to put your placement on Unifrog: Friday, 13th February 2026     Year 12 Work experience dates - 13th - 17th July 2026 Deadline to put your placement on Unifrog: Friday, 20th February 2026         2) Apprenticeship applications are on the up!   The Careers Academy has been a hive of activity with more Year 13 students than ever before coming to see us for help and advice with our applications for degree apprenticeships.  We are always happy to help. Please complete your application but do not submit it, we will happily read through your applications and suggest the tweaks you may need to make to be successful in being invited to the next stage (assessment days and interviews). Please remember, we hold an apprenticeship clinic every Thursday, period 5 in the Careers Hub - please come along if you need some help.       3) Year 11 careers guidance meetings   The LPGS careers team have met with all Year 11 students this term for individual careers guidance meetings.  We have loved hearing about your plans for your next step and giving you advice, and we are excited to work with so many of you when you continue into Year 12 at LPGS6!   We have also been supporting students who wish to take a more vocational route next year with college applications.  If you would like some help, please do pop in to see us. We can get your application submitted in under 8 minutes (yes, Miss Day and I have timed ourselves!!)     4) Buzz Quiz and SACU Quiz We would LOVE for students to take the Buzz Quiz or SACU Quiz over the Christmas break - these take 10 minutes and we have really found them useful when we are working with students who do not know what they want to do in the future.  The results suggest careers and/or university courses and apprenticeships suited to your interests and personality traits.  This is a great way to get you thinking about the possibilities available to you and great to discuss at home with your family too.  For those students who think they know what they want to do in the future, these quizzes are equally beneficial as a checking exercise, ensuring there are no other associated careers you may have missed or not have heard of yet!   We suggest the Buzz Quiz for students in Years 7- 10 and the SACU quiz (UCAS spelt backwards!) for students in Years 11 - 13.   Buzz Quiz   Free Career Quiz  (SACU)     5) LPGS Futures Fair – 29th January, 2026! It is now less than two months until our annual Futures Fair and we are excited to confirm that this year, it is going to be even bigger than ever before! Every student in the school will get the opportunity to visit the fair so get ready and come prepared with any questions you have to make the most of the time you have to speak to colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers and employers!     Who can you speak to?   We have many colleges and universities attending who offer a wide range of courses from medicine, marketing, technology, law, finance, animal science, sports science, business, hair and beauty and lots more!   We have lots of employers and apprenticeship providers attending who can help you with any questions about the world of work and applying to apprenticeships in law, accountancy and finance, real estate, engineering, aviation, technology, the NHS, MET Police, Army, catering and  hospitality, motorsport, teaching, sport, marketing, media, recruitment, construction, surveying, performing arts, hair and beauty and many more!   We are really excited about the Futures Fair and can't wait for you to experience it.  Please remember that somebody that you meet that day, may be somebody that actually becomes your future boss!  Dress to impress, wearing your best uniform, and make the most of the day!  We highly recommend printing off some copies of your CV if you are pursuing work experience, this is your chance to hand deliver them to some amazing companies.   If you have any questions in the run up to the fair, please do pop in to the Careers Hub, we would love to hear from you.

  6) World of Work Tuesdays   We have really enjoyed introducing you to so many new employers this term and we have some exciting speakers already booked for the new year.  A reminder, if you would like to hear about a particular career, please pop in to the Careers Hub and let us know, we will do our best to find you a speaker - we love a challenge! This term we have heard about careers in recruitment, real estate and surveying, NHS, law, accountancy and sports journalism.  Next term we already have speakers booked who work in game design and television.     7) Sixth Form LinkedIn and Networking Event   Our Sixth Form, LPGS6, really is a special place and we LOVE working with you all.  A couple of weeks ago, Miss Day and I had a "moment."  We stood and watched our wonderful Year 13 Careers Ambassadors deliver a session on LinkedIn, networking and seizing opportunities to our Year 12 students.  We couldn't have been prouder of you all.  It's wonderful to see you all supporting each other, sharing opportunities and handing out advice to the next generation of students.  Always remember, "LinkedIn is Life" and keep chasing those opportunities and making those fantastic connections!  You have to be 16 years old to set up a LinkedIn account and we have been discussing this with our Year 11 students during their careers guidance meetings.  We look forward to receiving lots of connection requests as you turn 16.  We share a lot of opportunities on LinkedIn so please do pop in and see us if you need any help or advice setting one up.

8) Years 7 and 8 Careers Quiz   Miss Day and I could hear you screaming the answers at the screen from two floors below you during our KS3 careers highlight of the winter term... The LPGS Careers Quiz... it was crazier than ever and so impactful! Two weeks before the quiz, we did a session with the students to introduce Unifrog and the LPGS Careers Academy and we told them we would be doing a quiz with prizes and kudos up for grabs! The students clearly took note of everything we said… and remembered it! We covered subject related careers, post 16 pathways, Unifrog, all the ways the LPGS careers team can help, apprenticeships and of course there was some dressing up involved! We love doing the quiz for our younger students, letting them know that the careers academy is a fun and approachable place! Congratulations to  7SG and 8GA who were victorious this time round!   9) Year 7 Careers Poster Competition  Congratulations to our winners!  On Personal Development Day, we asked the students to research a career they may be interested in and make us a poster, we received so many fantastic posters, it was very difficult to shortlist the winners. Your posters now decorate the inside entrance to the Careers Hub - come and take a look!     10) Podcast   We have a new school podcast run by Anastasia and Alexandra - look them up on Insta: sweet_ta1k.withus  Miss Day and I were honoured to be asked to be their first guests  We talked about "everything careers" with some fun questions thrown in too!  We cannot wait to see the final edited version!

That's a wrap folks, its been a buzzing and productive term. Merry Christmas, have a fantastic break and we will see you in 2026.   Mrs Hayden and Miss Day

Music Department

On the last day before October half term, 56 students set off to Belgium on Music Tour.  The trip was a real success and the concerts in which our students performed were exceptional. As well as the concerts, we got to visit the Netherlands, the town where Adolphe Sax invented the saxophone (via a cable car!), went bowling, visited underground caves (where we did a a quick impromptu sing along) and participated in a Belgian chocolate workshop on the way home.

Check out a students’ write-up of the trip in our new school newspaper!  We can’t wait for our next trip and planning is already underway so keep an eye on Instagram and emails for details and application deadlines. Next in the calendar this term was our Year 7 Mamma Mia concerts which went down a treat with packed audiences on both nights.  The students learn the songs in class and are also given the chance to audition for solo slots.  It is really brave of them all to get up on the stage so soon after joining the school but it’s definitely a memory that will stay with them!

Three classes have had the chance to learn the trombone, violin and mini clarinet (the Dood) since September as they have been the first students this year to do the Year 7 Music Scheme.  They showed their hard work in a short showcase after school on Monday 1st December and many of them have now signed up to continue learning an instrument as a result.  If your child still wants to learn an instrument but hasn’t signed up yet, it’s never too late.  Lessons with our visiting Bromley Youth Music Trust tutors are available to all year groups. You can sign up using this link, we even still have some spaces left for DJ lessons: https://www.bymt.co.uk/lessons/ Our final event of the year was our Winter Concert which had over 260 students performing in it, a new LPGS record!  We hope you have a lovely break when it arrives.  Membership of all Music clubs opens again in January, if any students want to join anything they haven’t already. Our music clubs provide an opportunity for students to continue and extend the learning they do in the classroom. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram at LPGSMusicDept
