Women’s Lacrosse Makes Third Straight NCAA Tournament Appearance

Women’s Lacrosse advanced to the NCAA tournament for the third straight season and became just the second Drexel team in any sport to achieve the feat. The Dragons earned an NCAA at-large bid and faced powerhouse Maryland after finishing the regular season with a 12-5 record, which included a win vs. B1G Ten foe, No. 19 Johns Hopkins.

Drexel Basketball Joins the Philadelphia Big 5

The Big 5 officially welcomed Drexel University and revealed details of a new series format where the Big 5 champion will be determined during a same-day, Big 5 triple-header at the New Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, December 2, 2023. The April announcement was made on the court at Wells Fargo Center which has been home to numerous NCAA Tournament games and has featured all of the Big 5 teams in action during its more than 25-year history. The Dragons join the Big 5, formed in 1954, which now features all six Division I institutions within the greater Philadelphia region: Villanova, Temple, Saint Joseph's, Penn and La Salle.

"Drexel University is honored to become part of the Philadelphia Big 5," said Drexel Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly. "The Philadelphia Big 5 is synonymous with basketball history in the city and it is exciting to have our brand now be associated with such a storied organization. As an institution of higher learning, prominently positioned in the city, we are proud to be aligned with these five schools that combine excellence in both academics and athletics. This is a historic day in Drexel basketball history. We look forward to making the Big Five Classic at the Wells Fargo Center a marquee event for our program, our University, and the Philadelphia sports community."

Twice As Nice: Drexel Rowing Wins Second Straight Men's Points Title at Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta

For a second consecutive year, the Drexel men's rowing team took the men's points trophy as the Dragons were crowned champions at the 84th Annual Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on the Cooper River. Drexel clinched the men's points title with a win in the Varsity 8+, finishing with 117 points on the day. It is the first time the Dragons have won the men's points title two years in a row. It is also the second straight year DU took earned the gold medal in both the First and Second Varsity 8+ boats.

Women's Rowing Places Second at CAA Championships

On the strength of four silver medal finishes, the Drexel University women's rowing team finished second at the CAA Championships on Friday, May 12 at Fish Creek Marina in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. DU totaled 36 points at the event.

Women’s Basketball Earns Share of CAA Regular Season Title

For the second year in a row and fourth time in six seasons, the Drexel women's basketball team earned at least a share of the CAA Regular Season championship. The Dragons posted a 13-5 record in conference play on their way to a sixth consecutive full season with 20 or more victories.

Smith Qualifies For 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Swimming Trials

Sebastian Smith of the Drexel men's swimming and diving team qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Swimming Trials after swimming a 53.51 in the 100 Long Course Meters (LCM) fly.

Smith becomes the first male swimmer in program history to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Swim Trials. To qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Swimming Trials, a swimmer must swim a time set by the USA Swimming, the National Governing Body of swimming in the United States. For the 100 fly, the standard was set at 53.59.

Not our words, but the headline from an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer from October, describing the upgrades to the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The arena underwent a $6M upgrade, including the addition of a jumbotron and ribbon boards as well as enhanced scorers tables, lighting and sound system.
